I wish this had been the first statistics book I ever read
I bought this book to learn R, believing that I had a good grounding in statistics, but no idea about the practicalities of using R.In fact (as indeed the name suggests) this is much more about statistic than R. At first I even felt a little bit patronised, but after reading on a little that feeling was quickly replaced by a deep respect about how well simple and not so simple statistical concepts were explained. I admit I repeatedly found myself mouthing the words "Oh yes, that is why!".My stats background was based on struggling through and memorising increasingly complex equations and learning rules. In contrast this book explains things from basic concepts so that the equations make total sense. I believe that if I had come to this book 30 years ago I would never have had to memorise the maths - it would all have become intuitive. I would add that R is also the perfect instrument to reinforce this bottom up approach.I have no hesitation in awarding this 5 stars, although it has to be admitted that there are occasional gaffs where the numbers in tables and figures do not fit with the text (which you would have though an editor would have picked up upon). My final words have to be a quote from the for dummies series, which in this case is absolutely true:"Learning made easy"

Good place to start for beginners, and has some useful tips and shortcuts for intermediates too
This is a good place to start if you want to learn to code using R.I used it as a bit of a taster before starting a course for my job, which involved learning coding for R, and also a bit of Python and Jupiter as well.As with all these For Dummies guides, there are plenty of hints and tips, and also lots of visual examples, which I find really help me more than reams of text.A great place to start for everyone looking to further their knowledge of R, which is fast becoming the coding method of choice for embedding in many applications and developers.4 stars.

Concise and well explained.
A very good reference that you can use as a self-teach course. Good, clear and concise explanations, useful for beginners and more seasoned R users. This is better than other texts that just focus on the use of R rather than using R for statistical analysis, a strong point of this book.

An excellent introduction
Coming from a less-than-specialised statistical background, and with no programming experience, This book has allowed me to adopt R for a variety of statistical functions that I have previously performed using other software packages. The instructions are clear, the methods are useful and applicable, and I believe that the book is good value for money either as a learning aid or reference guide.

Excellent book. Five star +
This is really an excellent book written in a very clear and pedagogic fashion. There are a few errors but the author has furnished corrections for some of them on the book's website. I miss chapters on Logistic regression and Survival analysis. Perhaps the author will be so kind to add them soon in new Appendices: Appendix 4 and 5? :)

Explains statistical analysis and R
This book assumes you need instruction in both R and Statistical Analysis. It explains stats from first principles and the bits of R you need more or less from scratch. There is quite a lot of maths in it and not a massive amount of R code. This may not suit everyone, it depends on your background. I’d probably say it’s best for someone who is not proficient in Stats – if you’ve used R for other things besides statistical analysis there’s not going to be many chapters you won’t want to read. There are quite a lot of examples on how to graph things in R which I especially liked. I only had a printed copy of the book and I couldn’t find the examples online anywhere (you can download three appendices from the Wiley web site - worth looking at before you buy I suggest), so I had to type everything in I wanted to try. It would have been nice to be able to get the code from somewhere – you won’t have that problem If you read the book on a Kindle app running under Windows though.

Excellent introduction to a computer language
This book is well worth the price. Easily-paced, it takes you through the language in comfortable steps. My one grumble is that an introduction to R's scripting feature early on would be useful, to save having to reload the libraries every new session. Clear and well-written.Alan.
