Great beginners' book - but found 2 errors on one recipe that has made me wary
I bought my air fryer about 2 months ago and my initial choice of cookbook was 'too american', so I opted for this one instead and it was brilliant! It had such a great information section at the beginning and we really enjoyed every recipe we tried. Christmas Eve dinner was however a failure. I had extended family to dinner and had selected a quick and easy recipe of salt and chilli chicken. The first error was not so big for someone who cooks regularly. The dried powder ingredients are set aside in a separate bowl (separate from the egg dip) but are not included in the rest of the steps. The second error was that the recipe is for 2 people with a salt addition of 1 tbsp, a pepper of 1 tsp. When I was to quadruple the ingredients for my quantity of chicken strips (and guests), I was alarmed at the idea of putting in 4 tbsp of salt! But one of the main ingredients of the recipe is salt (and the other is chilli) so I added 'only' 3.. I can tell you it was inedible! I had to round up all of the dinner plates and scrape them all, we had leftovers that had to be disposed of too. I tried with white wine vinegar, lemon juice .. all the recommendations to kill the salt flavour without luck. All these additions neutralise the flavour but not the sodium intake. It was a huge disappointment. I hope the chef, #NathanAnthony sees this review and responds. Two of my sons also got this book as part of their christmas presents, with an warning about quantities.#EburyPress #BoredofLunch #airfyer

Some Good Ideas- Heavy on the Calories!
Firstly- 4 stars seems a little harsh- but it’s not 5 stars, for the reasons listed below.I think the book is full of some good recipes that will be really handy for some quick meals in the week. The recipes look delicious, the book layout is great, being split into different themes and something which not all recipe books do.. there’s a handy picture for every recipe. Can’t fault that bit.Given that this is a healthy book, and these recipes have been calorie counted, there are a number of different “meals” that are quite calorie dense. Most of the recipes are for individual things, rather than a complete meal- a burger (660 cals) sweet and sour chicken (468 cals), crispy pork belly (526 cals), chicken Parm (595 cals) etc.. but the carb side to go with the main (chips, new potatoes, rice, spaghetti.. etc) are A. shown in the photo, but B. not included in the calories- pushing the total meal cals up to 800-900+, plus any sauces, that’s nearly 50% of my daily cals on dinner!!Some of the recipes also call for things to be pre-cooked, not in an air fryer, or no instructions either.. is this an air fryer recipe book, or a book to tell me how to cook meat in the air fryer? The book has not been proof read- it is littered with mistakes and seems like it has been cobbled together quickly- although this is probably a reflection on penguin!Perhaps I got the wrong end of the stick for this book. For those not buying this book to be heath conscious, the above probably does not matter. However, if like us, you are trying to be healthy, then perhaps take the recipes with a pinch of salt!Bottom line- for £10 it’s got some value. Will we flick through it, yes! Is it as good as the slow cooker book? Not a scratch on it- it’s just not quite the complete package and some recipes will need adjusting!
