Amazing book.. too interesting for bedtime!
I bought this book for my first child 8 years ago, was a favourite of child no 2 for a while and is now being read to child no 3 who is 7 and currently going though the “rock phase”.Not only has this been a firm favourite for all of my children, I enjoy reading it too as it’s well written and the pictures are lovely, my kids like to think about how a prehistoric creature might have used a rock in their collection. It also educates on earth processes and although it doesn’t go into a lot of detail on things like evolution, fossil formation or tectonics the way the book is written encourages children to think about them and invites curiosity and discussion. So beware of reading it as a bedtime book.. I’ve just spent an extra half an hour googling the bedrock of our local area and researching how and where it was formed which then obviously lead to a deep dive into plate tectonics and the break up of Pangea 😂

Wonderful
A fantastic introduction to the to the world about us. Purchased for my eight year old grand daughter. She has been so interested in it and continually asks questions about stones, rock formations and even the gravel on the drive at her home. Great illustration drawings and very well presented

The book that keeps on giving
This book has a beautiful beginning that my daughter has memorised and recites every time we find a pebble on our walks (which is often!). It has also inspired her to start a collection that includes fossils and minerals and she's only five! - It gives a very good overview of the beginning of the world and evolution. Highly recommended.

Great for expanding vocabulary
Quality book. I bought it for my son as he studied it in school for guided reading and going through it, I realized the words used might be a bit too hard for a year 3 pupil. I bought it so we could read it and understand it together. I found it a bit boring, however the vocabulary is substantial.

A great book for the little ones
A great book for the little ones, explaining the time scales of the geological process is not easy (even for adults to comprehend) but this book does a great job of introducing just how much a typical pebble goes through to get to where it is today. Nice artwork and a great narrative.
