Fine beginner's fiddle
Arrived surprisingly quickly (Hermes tracking went from 'due for collection' straight to 'delivered through letterbox' !!). Packaged securely in a (slightly dented) cardboard box and lightweight case.Violin is a bit rough around the edges - literally: running my thumb along the seams where the sides meet the front/back encountered sections which could have been finished better, but it's a very minor quibble, and for £35, irrelevant. Finish is otherwise pretty good.Tuning - the strings stretch like bug - erm, mad, so it took a while to become stable(ish - strings still stretching). Being an experienced guitar & mandolin player, I knew the strings would stretch, but was a bit surprised at how much...Bow - doesn't shoot arrows, but when dragged over the strings it makes a noise, so fit for purpose.Rosin - works as it should to make the bow hair stickyish. (Remember, it needs to be roughened before use with a key or knife tip, and will break if you press too hard!)Sound - sounds like a violin (as opposed to a tuba or xylophone). I'm no violin expert, but it sure sounds OK to me.All in all, a perfectly good instrument for a beginner (IMHO, anyway).

So I’ve been thinking about learning the violin for a while now and seeing one for sale for a pittance seemed fantastic. No great financial investment for an instrument I might not actually enjoy outside the realms of my imagination.Upon receipt of the offending item I was very pleased. Grabbing my tuner after carefully placing the bridge I set out to get the thing in tune before massacring ‘Twinkle Twinkle’. HOWEVER this wasn’t to be. The damn thing wouldn’t get remotely in tune.Thinking ‘this often happens with a new stringed instrument’ I jump straight onto the YouTube to see what I can do for the problem. After several videos on the subject ‘peg paste’ seemed to be the general consensus so it was a hop, skip and a jump to the local music shop. After outfitting myself with the paste and then purchasing some quality strings I return home to once again do battle with these accursed pegs.Post fitting the new strings and liberally applying the aforementioned paste I get back to tuning and what do you think should happen? Am I a savant with my fiddle and bow? No. I am a thoroughly pissed off man closer to 40 than 20 defeated by a violin which cost less that £40 including postage.I cannot recommend this product.

Not great
Strings snapped within days. Had to pay £30 to have it professionally restrung. Not worth it, however daughter loves it (once I had the strings fixed!)

Excellent value
This a wonderful surprise - a real violin that plays with a smooth, sweet tone, for little more than the cost of the case it comes in. There's a bow and strings and rosin, and once you have set the bridge and tuned, the instrument is ready to play. I agree with the poster who suggests using some better rosin than the one that's supplied, though. Also, some chalk might be needed on the pegs, at least initially, as they tend to slip rather quickly.

Almost perfect!
Arrived two days earlier than stated - brilliant! Lovely condition, though there was one broken hair on the bow. Plays great, really nice piece of equipment. Only one problem, especially for a newbie like me who doesn't know much about maintenance - the rosin is rubbish. I used it on the bow for ages and the violin barely made a squeak. Took it to a music shop to get the bridge put in and they used different rosin and it plays wonderfully now. Bought some proper rosin from them and it works fine. I'd advise anyone who gets this product to do the same - don't use the rosin that comes with it, it doesn't work. But really good product, highly recommend.

Quick delivery
The carry case is very nice with a front pocket for music sheets ect. The case is very secure and nice to look at. There’s little manual handling to prepare to play the violin, first installing bridge , tuning and roughing the strings with rosin.
