It's easy to recognize anise star pods: They usually look like an eight-pointed star. This fruit of a tree in magnolia family native to China and Vietnam produces tough-skinned, rust-coloured fruits that are picked and dried before ripening. Anise star pods are hotter, more pungent, than the European anise. Anise star pods are used in Chinese̱ cooking, where foods are cooked for a long time in soy sauce. The herb is used to flavor ̱ many Asian soups, in Thai iced tea, and in Peking duck. Spiders
I have placed these where I have more bother with spiders and they seem to help

Fine for food but not for crafts
I bought these for art & craft due to the star shape and because they are advertised as "whole", but they arrived mainly broken and even the whole ones are not as attractive as some others I have from the supermarket. They smell great and no doubt they would taste fine, but avoid if you are looking for the pretty ones for crafting.

A very high proportion of whole flowers considering distance travelled and handling. Selection of clean flowers also to be commended.
