There's No Such Thing as....
...too many pastel pencils. The Derwent pencils have a beautiful range of colors, so that it's a shame that 16 of these are not lightfast enough for professional use, including most of the violet to pink range, and, curiously, the two ultramarine pencils. There is no good reason to continue using pigments that don't last, given the choices now available. The remaining pencils lay down a rich layer of color and will combine well with my Cretacolor set (all of them lightfast, but a little lacking in really dark shades of blue, violet and green.

Great price for this pencil set
This is a very nice beginner / mid range pencil set . The pencils last a long time and having the case helps keep them organized !

Vibrant Colors and Easy-to-Blend Layers
I've been learning about pastel pencils and soft sticks and Derwent was the obvious choice, as I've been using their graphite pencils for years. Love the bright colors and blendability of these pencils. They're not too chalky, nor are they too dense. Very easy to work with, whether making fine, edgy marks, or broader coverage marks. "Green Heron Fishing" on 9x12 Canson Mi-Tientes pastel paper. Highly recommend the Derwent pastel pencils.

LOVE THESE PASTELS!
Definitely worth trying this brand if you have not. I found the Derwent Pastel Pencils to be everything they claim to be...a professional (and expensive) blending pastel. Again, as I found out by only purchasing the set of 24, so many colors were missing that I wanted and needed, but that was my fault...not theirs. I love the way they put the name and number of the color high on the pencil, so if you need to re order a certain pencil from open stock you can. The wider pencil was a nice touch and I had no trouble getting use to it.The only negative thing I could say is...the nice tins these pencils come in stink. You will have to replace them with a case because after my experience of putting them in a backpack...falling open and them all over...made me more than a little upset. Especially after I paid a premium for a nice set of pastel pencils. So count that into the cost of purchasing any type of pencils, whether colored or pastels.I will be ordering their biggest set, just as soon as I can afford it. Still mad at myself for not waiting and ordering the largest set. Perhaps this will helps someone else not make the same mistake I did.

Decent pencils
Not well sharpened, sell them unsharpened so I can do it properly. Not well packaged so they broke in shipping. Save money and send them in a canvas roll, tin isn’t of use if they get broken anyway in shipping. They are decent pastel pencils, work and blend well. Water blending works. Only buy when on sale, they are not worth full price. Except for the poor sharpening of these I haven’t found a difference in the lower priced brand of pastels and these which was very disappointing. Worth trying. The mountain picture was blended with water, the calf drawing is finger blended.
