Sight Words (Flash Kids Flash Cards)

Combi of CVC and Sight Words
These are good flash cards, our kindergarten started to learn these words that are on Grade 1 level. The cards are colorful, quality is okay not so flimsy though a bit thin. The words are written clearly in a good font size for kids to learn. In case you are wondering what are the words in these cards here are they: an, last, but, big, go home, that fast, got, what, all, out, would, those, so, into, them, away, for, off, is, cat, at, over, look, bring, not, once, any, number, take, two, make, ten, up, far, are, walk, here, water, from, both, as, high, like, along, you, now, she, me, very, ask, to, yes, how, see, be, fun, who, play, of, way, word, please, we, find, in, did, have, dog, do, large, or, much, come, next. no, does, know, part, after, night, before, went, your, say, one, tell, than, myself, more, goes, on, am, they, has, him, name, by, done, long, many, use, school, saw, full, then, boy, often, there, had, get, if, right, was, may, when, today, this, girl, were, only, their, first, his, small, give, stop, said. why, some, never, old. should, my, great, it, write, about, made, been where, which, he, her, thought, will, might, time, better, each, show, can, few, the, call, and, people, other, always, a, could, again, little, with, these, I and day

Nice, but could be better
These cards are ok and "I guess" they serve their purpose. Its a shame in a couple of areas as they could be better. For example, the font used for the words doesn't include the little "tail" you get on a 't' or the letter 'j'. So when you're trying to teach your little ones, those little distinguishing elements of the letter fonts really help - AND most children's books or reading material do use enhanced fonts such as this. Ideally you don't want to make the discussion with a 4 year old as to why the letter t does sometimes have a tail and other doesn't, it really isn't necessary at this stage of learning - quite a distraction! Also, the cards are colour coded which made me think when I got it that the colours would distinguish maybe adjectives, nouns or verbs, but literally it's completely random colour arrangement which again seems like a missed opportunity from the product manufacturer - Barnes & Noble. Finally, as there are no tails on the letters, sometimes I see our youngest picking the card up, looking at it and then I realise the card is upside down - small words like on, or to, she's reading as 'ot' (given the 't' is just a cross) - so another benefit would have been just something in the card to denote the orientation so they're not reading upside down - ideally these cards should make learning the words as assisted as possible.Like I say, serves a purpose but given its for kids, a couple of small detailed thoughts during design would have made this a 5 star product. (ps, words are also US English).

I liked using them and I found they worked.
I brought these sight word cards some time ago, in 2016 when my daughter was 5 to support her learning of sight words when they had to learn to read so many in a certain amount of time at school. I have since dug them out again for my other daughter who is struggling with reading at the moment. I went on Amazon to see if they did grade 2 of these cards and notice the poor reviews. So I thought I would leave my own feedback.I have found these absolutely fantastic as I said was purchased in 2016 for my eldest daughter Who is now 8, will trun 9 in July. these really helped her when she was 5 year's old and supported her to learn her sight words. Like everything if you put time and effort and repetitively repeat. These worked a treat and my daughter is now a high level, brilliant fluent reader. My other daughter, who has attention span of a fly, I am finding it a 100% more difficult with her however in the short period of time of repetitively repeating these cards she is slowly picking it up. Even though I feel like smacking my head against the wall because it takes so long to get through them each time! However I have absolutely nothing negative to say about these cards. They are brilliant for a first set of sight cards to help Support early reading.I will be purchasing some different ones as we are just starting to need some higher level ones now and I can't seem to find them in this make/Style as the bright colours really helped the words pop. And I also find that my youngest seems to read them better with the bright coloured background/word's than she does on plain black and white text. Not sure If dyslexia has a play In that, as I understand colours can help somebody that has dyslexia. Or if they just stand out better and help With her concentration.I would Definitely get the next ones up if they did them.

Beware of fake reviews - just a random bunch of printed words
Repetitive words, ridiculous games suggested in the pack that would not support the child in their learning (if they make a mistake start again!). The same word printed a number of times and key “high frequency” words missing. Most of the words aren’t sight words but can be easily sounded out using phonics (dog, cat, get) - the point of sight words are they cannot be sounded out in the traditional way. Waste of money. I’m sure most of these reviews are fake as is the case with products originating from a certain place.

Buy Collins or Jolly Phonics instead, these are awful!
These are the worst sight words flash cards. Not in line with what sight words are taught at school in UK. They will confuse you and your child. 7 colours of flash cards, instructions say to start with orange (actually instructions only specify 4 colours so no idea where the other 3 fit). Here is a picture of orange sight words like ‘word’ (since when is it a sight word even! , ‘know’, ‘your’. And 3 levels above - the pink card , your child should memorise the word ‘on’ or 2 levels above ‘of’. At school kids first learn ‘on’ and ‘of’ then ‘your’. More confusing because the back of the card again has random words not in line with the level of the word on the other side. They don’t fit in the box I taped it and put it away and got them out for my third child and the same frustration. COLLINS or JOLLY PHONICS only if you want to teach as per school. It seems someone just went to the printer and printed random words in different colours and put instructions in from a completely different set of cards.. I think people who say they are good haven’t tried other flash cards to compare.

Perfect
I've bought these twice now (thanks to my older child and a cup of liquid) and love them. They are thick enough the last years which my first box did until the cup of liquid took them down and the words are clear and easy to read.
