Saved my computer (and my wallet) from the gray screen of death
I experienced the gray screen of death first hand when my 2010 13 inch Macbook Pro recently decided to not start up correctly. It would get stuck on the gray screen at start up with the spinning wheel that would just keep on spinning... and spinning... and spinning. When booting into recovery mode, it detected that my hard drive was corrupted - great! I was worried about the expense of buying a whole new computer, then figured why not try to repair it myself?I ordered this 500GB hard drive from Brand Name Manufacture for only $43 (which is actually an upgrade from my original 250GB one) and although I chose 3-5 day shipping, the package came in two days! Very impressed. Then I went to the local Dollar Tree and picked up a "precision screwdriver kit" and the smallest one in the kit was able to get the screws out of the bottom of the laptop.Installing the hard drive was MUCH easier than I thought and only took about 15 minutes. Like others have said, you WILL need to boot into recovery mode and erase the new hard drive; otherwise the computer won't recognize it and you won't be able to install the OS. A couple hours later of installing the OS and rebooting from my Time Machine (seriously, get an external HD so you can do this), my computer is back to the way it was - in fact, I am typing this review from my computer right now!An added bonus of installing the hard drive was that I was able to see how FILTHY my computer inside was... there was so much dust on the components. I was able to gently dust everything off, and now my computer runs silently and I noticed it is much quieter.Seriously... if you need a hard drive replacement for your MacBook Pro... buy this hard drive and do it yourself!! Best way to save hundreds of dollars. :)

Great BLANK hard drive, arrives in protective packaging and installs easily!
Great BLANK hard drive to replace the one that went out in my old MacBook Pro. This has absolutely nothing on it no operating system, files, or anything so you’ll have to install an OS on it. No instructions to install it as it’s just hardware itself but I feel it’s very easy and straightforward to swap out. I also have experience with breaking down and rebuilding computers, so I may be biased on that too. For complete newbies though, you just take off the back of your MacBook Pro, locate your hard drive, unscrew the tiny screws holding the old hard drive in place and MAKE SURE you keep track of those! I put mine in a little storage cup each time I removed one. There is also a small mounting plate that will keep the hard drive from wiggling around so you will have to detach that. After that, it’s as simple as unplugging the hard drive, plugging in the new hard drive, and doing everything in reverse order. It’s also very easy to do a Google search and find YouTube videos on how to do this.As for installing a fresh OS, that’s a little trickier but not bad. I can’t remember the exact steps but essentially if you have a disk you can install from that, you might be able to access disk utilities and download a OS from the App Store, or you can sideload an older OS onto a flash drive, and then install from there. The MacBook I was replacing the hard drive in maxes out at High Sierra so I wasn’t able to download Mojave from the App Store or even High Sierra from the App Store. I had to track down El Capitan and then load that but that was just my computer personally.

Great Packaging & HDD W/ 1 year Warrenty
I got the hard drive today (after buying in Wed and was expected on the 17th) and it came in a big envelope with a box inside then there was a smaller envelope inside the box then the small bag the HDD comes in. By far one of the best packaging I have EVER seen!Anyways I bought this for my 2010 MacBook Pro that silently failed on me. Lucky I bought an enclosure at the same time I bought this (they even met in the same shipping facility lol) I put the HDD in the Mac and it did not show up using the install disk the reason being is that it's a blank HDD without an OS (which isn't stated anywhere but in one review on here and I should have known that being advanced in computers). With the 2.5 Sata enclosure it came right up and I made 2 partitions one 495 and a 5GB for files that I would absolutely need if it fails again. With the enclosure I was able to put the OS on it and then put it in my Mac. Great HDD (Western Digital Blue if you cared)PS: Bought the 3.0 Screwless Saberent 2.5 enclosure. I love the 3.0 cable and it surprisingly doesn't get hot. I'm a huge customer on reviews and that seemed like the best deal.

Will work with 2007 MacBook, but be aware of hardware and operating system installation issues
You'll find that the manufacturer of the hard drive (HD) you receives varies, and is a 5400 rpm. I only give it a 4 star because of the problems in installing the HD and operating system:1. Hardware installation is relatively easy with the correct tools, but be aware that this HD is thinner than the OEM HD that came with the macbook. This doesn't affect the ability of the HD to fit in or run on the macbook, but it may appear to be incorrect, so don't be discouraged.2. Installing OS X on the hard drive is not possible without OS X 10.5 or higher (i.e. 'Tiger' or earlier will not recognize the HD during the install, and will not allow reformatting and described below). No matter what OS X you use, once you've installed the HD, you'll have to go into the 'Disk Utility' and reformat/partition the HD by erasing it. I ended up having to buy the Lion (10.7) OS X and installing that, after first formatting/partitioning the HD by erasing it in the 'Disk Utility' option, before the OS X could find the HD. After the HD is reformatted and found by the OS X, installation is normal. I spent hours researching and talking with Apple tech to discover this, and I'm only assuming this erase tactic would have worked on Leopard. All of this only takes a few minutes to complete, but it will take hours/days to get the HD up and running in your MacBook without this knowledge. Hope this helps someone and good luck!
