Very easy. Just plug in and it works
Bought this for an installation of a PA and multimedia system in a school. Obviously the audio can be extracted from a laptop, but teachers would likely struggle with this, when the default is to send audio out over the HDMI output. This gadget extracts the audio perfectly and sends that to an input on the mixer.Worked perfectly as soon as I plugged it in. No impact on picture quality and the audio seems fine.

Works great for 1440p and dolby surround sound on PS5
This is the first audio extractor I've found that actually allows me to use both dolby 5.1 and 1440p on the PS5. Others have either locked out the 1440p or locked out the dolby 5.1 but this one is fine for me. Now I can enjoy 1440p with or without HDR at 60Hz and 120Hz AND have surround sound again. To be clear, my other two audio extractors might have issues with my particular monitor (one of them behaves properly with a different monitor, for instance) but this one just worked: plug it all in, press the EDID button to select 7.1, and off to the races.Oh, and as a little bonus, all the cables plug into the same side of the unit so it's even tidier than the others I've used :)

Worked with limitations
First & foremost it's important to state that this device did extract the audio from the HDMI. However the best it could do was a 48KHz signal. I was listening to Pink Floyd , Dark side of the moon, blu ray 50th anniversary remastered which has 24bit 192KHz audio. No matter what settings I changed on the blu ray player, TV etc my RME ADI-2 DAC only always saw a 48KHz sample rate. My setup is a Sony blu ray player fed coaxially directly from audio extractor to the RME.Changed every setting imaginable all with the same result.Brought it to a friend's house, tried it on his system and exact same.HDMI leads are top quality.Played the same album through my Mac book air linked with usb to the RME and no problem getting the 192 24 bit.I believe there is some hardware compatibility problems and still trying to tease it out. This may work perfect on another person's set up.

Finally an adapter which works with the Xbox Series X
Finally, I’ve found one of these which actually splits the 4K video and Dolby digital audio from my Xbox Series X. Have tried several cheaper versions of these which have either produced inferior video quality or which the Xbox has refused to send Dolby digital to (won’t let me set the audio on the Xbox to Dolby). But this one does just what I want it to - perfect 4K video and splits off the audio via an optical audio cable to my ageing 5.1 home theatre system. Worth paying the extra cost (it was about twice the price of the inferior versions).

It works as described
Worked straight out of the box, bish hash bosh, don't you just love it when it works first time.I have an older amp that doesn't support 4K on the HDMI but with a PS5 and soon to get delivered 4K projector, I needed something to strip out the audio as Sony in their wisdom has done away with the optical out, this seems to have done the job, albeit that I am restricted to 1080P due to the projector I have, but it definitely works and the picture is bang on.Will update once the new projector arrives, but so far so good.

Perfect works at 1080p@120 and 4K@60, PS5 Astro A50s compatibility is fine.
Since Sony did not add an optical port to the PS5, I've brought many cheaper versions of Amazon to try and none of them worked at 1080p 120Hz & 4K 60Hz. It would always miss out something or I would have audio issues I brought this one as a last attempt and it works absolutely fine with my PS5 and Astro A50s. Resolution is not affected at audio quality is perfect. Definitely recommend if you want full resolution functionality and also audio! I know Astro have their own version of this adapter both are similarly price. So if you're looking, look no further get this one!

Product misrepresented
This product does not extract DSD audio as stated on it's listing, it will only pass through on HDMI output. As a result I could not use it for the reason of purchase (older AVR in a second room with no HDMI input). However I was able to use it to extract Dolby digital signals from a firestick for optical and coaxial inputs on the same AVR, and to this it works flawlessly.I have seen a few comments saying people have had no audio output via optical or coaxial outputs, this may have been due to a long press of the EDID button which mutes these channels, no instructions are provided to explain this.
