being psychologist this book is gold
It's very helpful in setting up new ideas and therapy treatments that can be done through tele-therapy and via video conferences. I would highly recommend it for both professional and personal use.

AWESOME BOOK FOR TRAUMA AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION
Cathy Malchiodi is the "grand dame" of art therapy. This is a must-read book for dealing with trauma and incorporating creative expression to resolve deep, inner conflict.

great book for art therapists
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and plan to apply some of the practices myself, as I deal with traumatized adults.

Art saves lives
This was a surprisingly compelling listen in the Audible Plus Catalog.Having experienced prolonged trauma and violence, art therapy was the only thing that ever worked for me. Talk made everything worse. I had nothing to say.Seeking understanding outside a clinical setting led me to Alice Miller nearly thirty years ago, and soon I began to let art speak for me.My frozen experiences only found expression in sculpture, painting, and eventually, dance. But why? Having read this book, I understand my process more clearly and how it worked. In those years, I stumbled through with much trial and error, but hopefully you won’t have to do that with the help of a qualified art therapist and the ideas in this wonderful book!Though the book is profound, it is accessible and easily understood. Malchiodi’s findings are supported throughout by clinical research, but her tone I doesn’t ever sound dogmatic or imperious. The author studied with Robert Motherwell, and love how she has incorporated her expressionist training into some of her therapy techniques. Her discussion of bilateral movement is particularly insightful. The book is sensitive, nuanced, detailed, and thoughtful. It is anything but one size fits all, giving hope for many different situations and experiences. Truly, I cannot recommend this book highly enough. If you feel drawn to art therapy, give it a go. You may just find art heals what words cannot.
