11 yr old Reluctant reader likes this book!
Bought for 11 yr old who usually likes listening to stories but not necessarily reading himself. He's into airplanes right now so took a chance on this title. He says "I love it, its actually interesting to read and it doesn't take forever to do a chapter." We'll call that a win! It has 20 chapters and 145 pages. Most chapters are about 5-8 pages long. There are no pictures in the book. Hoping if he likes this one, he'll expand out to other titles in the series and gain some confidence in independent reading.

A Gripping Read.
Pros: This Landmark Wright Brothers book is well-written by an established author. Great information. Gripping story line. Love of country explicitly expressed. Not a whiff of superiority to established culture present. A breath of fresh air.Cons: It is dated in its tone of voice. Written "for children" in a way no longer done. Younger children will not notice this, but older children and adults need to be prepared to overlook it for the book's other, and far superior qualities as compared to the Who, What, Where modern series (which are well-written without talking down, but which have been spoiled by the gratuitous insertion of Critical Race Theory, Hate USA, self-righteous myth-busting and Stirring up Resentment at all kinds of mankind's and Western Civilization's and the USA's so-called "systemic" evils.)The old landmark books are innocent, straightforward and intent not on twisting but on telling great stories about great people rising out of and also shaping great cultures. Far preferable.

Very engaging!
Kept the interest of my 3rd grader and lead to some great questions to be researched outside of the book. Very engaging book.

Treasure every flying hours that we can get.
This book is a must for all of the Pilots in the world. Because it actually tells u how many airplanes are made up of. From who, where, and when. Most importantly the storyline is epic I finish reading this books in 2to3 hours the time I relax my eyes, eat, and shower. It is A must-have for people who are curious about the lifes of the Wright Brothers before they created the first flight. Which is the Wright Flyer 1

Great, engaging, and educational book!
I never write reviews, but I had to after finishing this book. Great read! We read this together as part of our homeschool history class and all 3 of my kids (11, 9, 5 years old) were disappointed when it was over! That never happens! In fact, afterwards they requested we buy the books that are listed In the author's info at the back of the book. That says a lot! Their grandmother also mentioned to me today how much they were telling her about wind resistance, the wright brothers, bikes, kites, and typhoid fever. They definitely absorbed the information! Great, great book!

Not the same cover as shown
The book is fine but I did not receive a book with the pretty cover shown. Instead I got the same red, white, and blue cover that all the other websites sell.

10 year-old LOVES this book
Absolutely fantastic, engaging history for my 10 year old reluctant reader. Highly recommend. I was not familiar with Landmark books until recently when we began homeschooling and it’s a part of our curriculum. Where have these books been all my life?! Looking to get more soon.
