Simple but very effective
I bought this after using a 'one-shot' heating pad which I had received as a free sample. I am suffering from painful lower back pain and the heating pad was very soothing. A little research discovered this reusable heating pad.I have used it three of four times every day for the last two weeks and now swear by it.Take care to follow instructions about heating it up in the microwave as I think it might be damaged by overheating. I have a 1000w E-rated (Panasonic) microwave and I find that 1 minute on either side is the maximum when the pad is cold. If I am reheating it after a couple of hours use, so that it is still warm, I allow 40-50 seconds each side.The turntable in my microwave is large enough to put the whole thing in for reheating rather than removing the plastic pad from its fabric pouch (easily done if you need to).It fits around my midriff very comfortably and is thin enough to wear a sweater over the top. It stays warm for a good 2 hours or more so I tend to forget I have it on.Nicely made, simple to use, effective and no recurring costs - recommended.....

Soothing just where you need it!
I have found this product to provide just what I needed. It has a large flat microwavable heat pack that fits securly in the "Belt". It keeps warm for hours and can easily be worn under a jumper without being obvious. A perfect large pad that is held just right on your lower back. My wife as slept with it on several times and it stays in place. We have both said how mush it has helped when we have worn it. I shall now have to order another for when our back pains coincide.CONS - There may be a problem trying to get it down to the hip area, or for larger people due to the belt size. It comes with an extension piece but that only extends it about 5-6 inches(15 cms). The main "Belt" only covers upto about 40 inches(100 cms) or so around. I'm sure it could be extended further by anyone who can sow a little if required. Maybe adding some material between the velcro ends cut off the supplied extension piece. After all it is the securing of the pad in the right place that makes this product so good. It should be able to go around larger people out of the box - Note to manufacturer!

I had to make adjustments, but highly recommend.
Highly recommend, im 24 and have multi level degenerative disc disease and this works wonders. Only problem was its way to big on me. I had to sew a extra sticky bit so it would fit me.The heat lasts about 4-5 hours after that it will stay warm but not hot. I have been using it constantly ever since, even sleeping with it on. Really has made improvements, even sleeping better. Give it ago. Works for me.Please make smaller sizes for us little people :)

Fantastic Piece of Kit!
I have suffered with lower back problems for at least 2 decades now, I have quite degenerative bone disease in that area and despite keeping myself active and healthy there is no real cure apart from to try and alleviate the symptoms (pain). I'm up against it because I am allergic to Anti Inflammatory drugs but I discovered a long time ago that heat really helps and in the past I have always used traditional wheat cushions to apply this, which work really well whilst you are sitting in one spot or immobile but they are impractical to use whilst moving around, which lead me to try this backwrap and I have to say I am really please, I've used it for the past week and it has been just fantastic. It has got me up and able to get out walking the dog.I've had no issues with heating the pads in the microwave, I have an 800w microwave, so I have been heating the pad initially first thing in the morning when it absolutely stone cold for 2.5 minutes (turning halfway through) then subsequents reheats during the day I have been doing for just 1.5 minutes this is because the pad retains some heat for many many hours after being heated.I'm male and have a 34 inch waist, the wrap fitted me comfortably, there is though an elasticated extension piece that attaches via velcro for anyone that needs a more generous or comfort fit.I hope my review helps someone, if it does not then please remember I am only sharing my own personal and honest experience of the product.

A wonderful waist size - and so comforting, heat pad holder.
We use Hottie heat pads all the time - every day - all year long, as we both suffer from back pain.I had one of these given to me many years ago and thought it was time to replace it. This one has a larger waist size so it fits even better than the old one - both of us now!If you are looking for something comforting for back pain and being able to walk around at the same time - this is it. Get an extra Hottie heat pad to go with it. You won’t regret it.I might buy one for my brother as well because it has an extender for the waist and it might be big enough for him - he’s a bit tubby.Highly recommended!

If warmth eases your pain, then Hotties backwrap is the best solution
This most recent purchase is for my husband, who has had intermittent pain for 40 years - muscular rather than spinal or joint. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Osteo Arthritis, and loss of spinal disc volume in my neck and lower back, so warmth is key to pain reduction, to minimise my use of painkillers. The advantage of Hotties products is the length of time that heat remains in the gel pack, (up to 2 hours) and because the fabric wraps are custom designed to fit specific areas, the warmth goes where you want it but without burning you. Microwavable gel packs are safe, last a very long time even in regular use, and replaceable at a reasonable cost. I have adapted my back wrap so that the gel pack can sit lower on my hips to relieve sciatica, and hip pain while I await a 2nd hip replacement. I also use the gel pack in a different wrap as a hot water bottle alternative, and (home made) in a weighted over shoulder comforter, or back of neck comforter. I'm very small, but my husband's wrap has to go round 36" waist. I think a 40" waist might need additional fabric sewn in and then adjust the Velcro to fasten. It has come to our attention that Hottie thermal packs are being damaged by use in the small chamber microwave ovens that are now on the market. The damage appears as holes of melted plastic in one or more corners of the plastic pouch. This may occur on the first time of use, and may therefore easily be mistaken for a manufacturing defect.
The damage occurs when the Hottie thermal pack is unable to rotate freely. The pack does not need to become trapped to cause this damage, which may in some cases result from a very short interruption to rotation.
If your microwave oven is small--17 litre or less--or your turntable is less than 25 cm diameter or rotation of the pack is impeded in any way, you should not use that microwave to heat your Hottie in the normal way.
It is possible to gently roll your thermal pack and secure with an elastic band. Some customers have found this satisfactory in smaller microwaves.
From March 1st 2011, we will no longer replace free of charge thermal packs which show this type of damage. We thank the many loyal customers whose feedback has helped us identify the cause of this problem.
