Q: Will they rust as going to used externally

It will depend a lot on what you intend to use them for, and what environment they will be exposed to. A2 stainless steel is equivalent to stainless grade 304, which is generally fairly resistant to rusting, but not as resistant as 316 grade (A4 stainless). 316 is used significantly in food preparation areas, for example, where surfaces are substantially wet and / or exposed to aggressive cleaning regimes. If they're going to be installed near the sea, or used in an application that would expose them to an aggressive atmosphere, then they will suffer from a minimum of discolouration, and possibly some light surface rust. I have seen 304 grade stainless steel degrade both badly and very quickly in the presence of an atmosphere with an elevated chlorine vapour, so the full answer isn't simply yes or no. If they'll be miles from the sea, then under normal ambient conditions they should retain their appearance for a significant period. Regardless, I would expect that they will not suffer from the same degradation as other (e.g. BZP) fixings. Hope this helps.

Not a standard. Manufacturers often get specials made for particular products which are available as spares from those manufacturers. Large button heads for motorcycle plastic fairings springs to mind.
