Meichoon Forstner Drill Bit Set: Great Value for Woodworking
The Meichoon Forstner Drill Bit Set 15-35mm 16 Pcs cuts clean, precise holes in wood and plywood, perfect for my hinge and drawer projects. The range of sizes is awesome, but they can heat up fast, so I use coolant to keep things smooth.

Not bad for the money...
I purchased this set for occasional use, not expecting much... In fact, you most often get what you pay for...That being said, if you have a diamond paddle or two, you can make respectable Forstner bits out of these, for occasional use. (see pictures) This set is definitely for people with more time than money, and for those that will not be using them every day. Here is what I found:1) all the bits (and I mean ALL), are poorly sharpened and will require re-shaping/cleaning-up of the cutting edges with a coarse diamond hone, followed by honing with a fine diamond hone. Most are NOT ground along the entire edge, and some still have brazing material on the edges. Not a big deal...Notably, the spurs are reasonably well-sharpened, and most will NOT require touching-up.2) The "carbide" (if that is what it actually is) is rather soft. This may be a plus when it comes to reshaping and honing the edges.3) All the shanks are numbered, and easy to identify. Some have complained theirs were not.4) The concentricity appears to be good, and once honed, they make pretty good holes. All in all, a reasonably good starter/occasional use set, if you are comfortable sharpening these types of bits. Check on YouTube for more info on that topic. These are certainly not professional quality.

Nice set. Sharp bits. These are metric sizes, wrote on each case the closest SAE size. Recommended product.

Labeling
Labeling questionable. I wish they would have put the actual inch conversion on the labels instead of millimeters. As you can see I had to go through and physically measure each one and write it on the label myself. That being said, The other ones on the right side measures up almost the same as the left side. So I'm a little confused on the measurements of the right side as to what's accurate on them. The left side I know is correct because I measured them myself. On a good note, they arrived as promised. I have not used them to know the quality yet. Hopefully that will be okay.

What has "sheerness" got to do with anything?
Is that the new buzzword?Anyways, on to the tools!I am a hobbyist woodworker and had always heard of Forstner bits, but had never used one. Well, recently I acquired a ShopSmith Model 10E mostly because of the wood lathe capabilities. Watching YouTube videos about using the lathe I repeatedly hear the presenter saying he used a Forstner bit for this and that so I decided I need some of those! I go directly to Amazon for all my shopping needs, if for no other reason than to read the reviews before I dump cash into something I know little to nothing about.Well into the wormhole I went and found these bits. They had the most positive reviews among the Chinese made tools, which is what my budget allows. Sure, I'd like some Austrian made bits, but come on, I'm not made of money.Okay, Pros;Pricea bunch of sizes. If they aren't 100% accurate the next size should be close since 1 mm is smolI tried several in some pine, all I had on hand, Smooth round holes with flat bottomsThey didn't come in a box to get broken/spilled damaging the bits, good packaging.Cons;A couple had a little run-out, making the hole larger than it should be, just go down a size. The shafts are not of a uniform size. My 1/4" 10" long extension almost fits the smaller ones, not close on the larger ones. They are metric. Not a deal-breaker for me, I know that 16mm=5/8, 19mm=3/4, 21 is 7/8 25mm=1 inch and I'm just punching holes, not building a yacht. Can't attest to the durability as all I have tried them on is soft pine for testing.Round shafts might spin in the chuck in high load situations.Overall I am satisfied and would recommend them.Dan
