A little let down...
Skipped a lot of pages... don't read latin. lol. I think the worst for me was the 2 big continuity errors. Spoilers: According to this Dean graduated and went out on his own hunting. Which is wrong according to the tv lore. Dean did not finish school. I believe he got a G.E.D but he himself said he was a drop out. Also in the very first episode of Supernatural Sam was surprised that John was letting Dean do his own hunts. To which Dean replies "Dude, I'm 26". Why would Sam be surprised at this if Dean had been off hunting on his own since he was 20? If you are into the monster lore the book should not disappoint. If you are looking for Sam and Dean history.... not so much. :-(

Way too much Latin.
About half the book is Latin, the rest is really good. Why do I need nine more words to post?

Great backstory and insight to John's thinking not seen in the show.
The book isn't written like the journal in the show, but as a actual chronicled journal in book format. I was expecting more, but after diving in, you find out loads more of John's history, how he got started in hunting, how he got his best friend killed, his struggles raising two boys. There's also plenty of mention of ghosts, ghouls, hell hounds, demons, revanents, words of an exorcism. Pretty epic, once you get past the disappointment the pages and drawings aren't like in the show.

Good for Fans of Supernatural
Book Review Written November 15, 2019*Supernatural™ John Winchester’s Journal, By Alex IrvineKindle Edition (227 Pages)Supernatural™ is a long running Cable Television series about two brothers (Sam and Dean Winchester) who travel throughout America seeking out, fighting, and always destroying all forms of evil paranormal incarnations imaginable, including, but not limited to Satan, ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and even "bad"angels each week. They frequently refer to their vocation as "the family business" because their father, John Winchester, raised the two brothers from an early age, as he roamed the country for twenty years, engaged in righteous quest to find and destroy every paranormal creature he encountered, as he seeks the evil being that killed his wife. This book is best described as a "Fan Fiction" version of the journal John kept of his various encounters during his twenty year campaign to destroy all evil. Overall, I think the author did an excellent job of capturing the character, style, and tone of John Winchester. However, I was a little disappointed by its content because I expected more information detailing how John fought and killed the various evil entities he faced. John's journal is an important plot device in Supernatural™ series and is frequently consulted by Sam and Dean, particularly when they seek guidance on how to deal with an entity they encounter for the first time. If they had to depend on this version of John's journal I doubt that the show would have lasted for 11 or 12 seasons. Fans of Supernatural™ will enjoy this revealing take on John Winchester's character and motivations. Other readers will probably need to watch a few episodes of Supernatural™ to appreciate this book.

Giftable
I really liked this book, it's well made and what it actually is, is the diary that John Winchester had. It told the story of the show. I do wish it had looked like the journal from the show so that was a disappointment. I bought the "journal" which was a tablet and a shirt as a gift & spent around $40.00. When the journal turned out to be a tablet I bought this book so it does make a nice gift.

Highly Recommended
A great read. Don't need to recommend it to SUPERNATURAL fans as they will buy it anyway. But for anyone interested in urban legends or myths it is also a good read as the SUPERNATURAL team are very meticulous in their research for the show and any of the creatures or ghostly entities can be found on line in various cultures, as can the Latin incantations. I gave it 4 stars because the look of the book disappointed me. I didn't expect to see "typed" text. I thought the publishers would put a handwriting font on the text to really mimic John's journal; reading it in typed form spoilt it for me a little, as did some of the sketches. John's stick figure of a Wendigo is visually "famous" in the on screen journal but in this book it's a real artists kind of sketch. Minor points really but it mattered to me. Notwithstanding it sits proudly in my bookcase and is a great pick up and read kind of book and outlines the origins of the Winchesters as hunters very well.

Loved it
As a Supernatural fan, I had to have this book. It's John's journal as everybody already knows, so there's a lot of information that will link to the show and things that you thought you understood, will be further explained. Not gonna lie, I cried a bit whenever he referenced Dean. I mean, it's about a family that was destroyed and he father who's trying to do the best he can (or what he thought was the best). I'm not going to leave any spoilers, except thatI loved it. Not only the "family drama", but all the information about the monsters.I would recommend it to any fan.

i loved it
it fills in a lot of holes, and if you watch the show -and are an avid fan like me- you can pick up a few references, like when Sam "doesn't want to go bow hunting". I loved it, though there are some passages that confused me, must be in latin or something like that, but there is also info on different monsters, some that aren't on the show. You can also tell how John changes, over the course of his different journal entries, for example he writes a whole page on his feelings on Marys' death on the day their anniversary a year later but they get smaller and more focused on 'what killed her' and revenge rather than 'the boys' or his own well being, which i think describes his character in the show well. It also ends the same way it did on the show, when John goes missing. I recommend this book for anyone who is a huge fan!

So I bought this as a Christmas present for my partner, I had to have a proper look at it before wrapping it up and I can honestly say that I am more than happy with it. It's got so much content inside of it, I really wasn't expecting it to contain the pictures of Sam and Dean too. My partner is going to love this so much.

Before Supernatural there was John Winchester
Have read this book and love it. This book follows John Winchester and his two son's Sam & Dean just after the death of his wife John knew that something was out there and it killed her he goes hunting for the thing that did it but on his way he comes across other supernatural creatures. John takes the boys along with him and he meets some other hunters like Bobby Singer. Must read for all die hard Supernatural fans if you want to find out the before story behind the boys we see on our screens today then get this it is his journal that shows up in the first episode of Supernatural
