Rock the Shack: The Architecture of Cabins, Cocoons and Hide-Outs

If you are looking for the dream ideas and concepts of what could be done in hut and treehouse type building programs - this is the right book for you. I have read a couple reviews here saying that it isn't "realistic" and I would have to disagree. These ideas and built structures of course are not what you would find in a very typical building situation... for that I would go look at black and decker shed/treehouse sort of "teach you how to build" and "DIY" books. This book will not teach you about structure, details or even how something is sort of put together. The locations are of course ideal, and sometimes the budgets seem limitless (although some are very obviously budget constrained).The book is in a simple and easy layout... each project is given 1-5 images, typically covering 1-2 pages. Each project is given a little short paragraph describing the use/program/project and obviously giving credit to the builder or owner.For designer and architects - This book is great for ideas and seeing some unique building situations or materials used in a non typical way. This book does not show any construction details, or technical drawings, it is all photographs/pictures. If you find a project interesting in this book I would then go and look for another book or even at the designers website for more information regarding said project.With that said, I do enjoy looking through the pages and dreaming.

This is such a beautifully put together book and will be a staple on my coffee table for months/years to come as I visualize and get inspiration for my own little wooded beautiful designed shacky escape. The pages are thick, the print quality is spot on and I love that they went with matte paper over anything w/ a sheen or gloss. I'd love to check out some of the more books from this publisher. Well done gestalten!!

This is sort of like haute couture for cabin fans. Not all of the structures are practical and some of them are ghastly, but they are all inspirational. I'm working on a design for a retirement cabin (seasonal) and this book made me want to up my game.

Makes a good coffee-table book for conversation, good photography & description of content, however, I hoped for more insight into each build, still nicely done...

Saw this book in a trendy shop in Lisbon totally overpriced but would've paid the price just for the dreams it created. It inspired a move to a village to similar settings - not yet the kind of homes the book portrayed but close. Important if you want to "grand design" your way out of the city to nature and serenity - with a bit of style. Very inspiring.
