Useful, witty and profound
I have always loved Peter McWilliams poetry. He had the most impact on my style of writing poetry(Poems in the Key of Life...a Journey). I never knew he wrote non-fiction books. When I couldn't find his poetry books I came to Amazon to purchase them again. This is when I saw his non-fiction work. I bought one. I loved it. It is a useful guide how to go through life with less distress. He does it in a witty, amusing and easy to understand way. I think everyone should read his books. I plan on getting the rest of his work. I have no doubt I will enjoy them as much as I have this one.

Shelf Therapy
There are times when I struggle, get stuck or simply bothered by something. When that happens it’s time for some shelf therapy aka LIFE 101. What I do is grab the book and randomly open it up to any page. Don’t ask me how because I can’t explain why, the chapter which is randomly opened always sheads light upon the thing I am struggling, stuck, or bothered by. I was introduced to this book by a life coach program offered by the mortgage company I worked for in the early 90’s. It was presented not as a book to be read cover to cover but as reference book which you randomly open and read. Each and every time the chapter I’ve randomly open gives me clarity to the situation at hand. Like I said, I can’t explain why. All I can do is invite you to do the same and give it a try. I am interested in knowing if you have the same experience.

The only self help book you'll ever need to buy
I've journaled through this book four times, working on my fifth, which is why I had to order another copy. I liked the size of my first copy better. This one is smaller so you can't open the book and have it last open while you journal because you would ruin the binding. Despite that I still have it five stars because the content is impeccable! Best self help book I've ever spent money on! If you are looking to figure out who you are, what changes would make you happy, and how to get there I highly recommend this book!

Makes you think...
This book is a compilation of one to two page reflections about the many situations life seems to find us in. Interesting take on many ideas. I especially liked the comparison with viewing life as water. Water doesn't 'hold on' or 'cling to' people or things. Instead it flows. You can't hold water in your hand. It keeps moving on, doing it's work. I think of this line often as I sit on the beach or on a pier over my favorite lake. I watch the water and I see how it just moves along, not permanently attaching itself to anything. Good book!

One of the Best Books I Ever Read
I must've bought over a dozen copies of this book. It's incredible! Read it. It will make you think and laugh. A lot. You'll wish someone had given it to you when you graduated from high school. If you have kids going off to college, give them this book to read on the way. They will thank you. Buy and read everything you can find by Peter McWilliams! I also highly recommend his book "Ain't Nobody's Business If You Do - The Absurdity of Consensual Crimes in Our Free Country" (you can read it online but you'll want your own copy). I lend these books to friends and never get them back and have to buy additional copies. You might as well buy five or six copies while you're ordering. McWilliams died in 2000 while out on bail fighting an arrest in California for using marijuana for medical purposes. He was required by the judge to turn in urine samples to make sure he wasn't still using it while on bail. The judge also told his attorney he could not tell the jury that McWilliams had AIDS and had used the marijuana to ease vomiting (he died choking on his own vomit). Read ALL his books, share them, give them as gifts. You'll love Peter McWilliams! And NO, you can't borrow my copies. Ron in New York

Practical knowledge that everyone should have.
I love this book. Very practical and easy to read and apply knowledge all packaged up. I read this book for the first time nearly twenty years ago and it helped me begin to think differently about myself and life. I was introduced to the awareness that I am not my mind and concentration and meditation. Concepts that have become the basis for enriching my life. I also love all of the quotes featured on nearly every other page. I bought this copy recently for my stepson because I wish I'd read this book in my teen years before graduating high school.

I thought it was going to be an insightful book, full of useful tips and tricks... instead it's mostly a boring narrative and compilation of 2 cents philosphies...

I bought this book one year ago and decided to leave it in Japan. Big mistake. I bought a second copy here in Canada to reread and use it as a reference. Since then, I've purchased the rest of Peter McWilliams' work.

If you are interested in self improvement it's a thought provoking read which keep things real. I recommend this and Richard Bach books to my friends.

Excellent read; this and "Ain't nobody's business if you do" are both very well written and the opinions (well, most of them) have stood the test of time.
