Approximately how many color prints I can make with this 1 black (PG-240) ink cartridge and 1 color (CL-241) ink cartridge??

I have seen a review that say "the black ink cartridge will last for about 200 pages of standard type. The color cartridge will do 50-75 4x6 pictures depending on quality of prints desired."

any problems with one color running out before the colors do?

Not at all. :) I draw with pastel pencils, then scan the drawings in to my laptop and soften them using paint shop pro. I have the very basic Canon printer and the drawings come out looking like they've been professionally printed. :) When the ink starts to run out I will see faded lines in the prints, like with all inks. Never a problem with one color running out before the others...very pleased.

What is the difference between pg 240 and pg 240xl?

240 (Black Cartridge) & (240xl) Black Cartridge are both manufactured by Canon, the difference is that with the XL (extended Life) gets about 1/3 more copies. I would NOT get a 240 cartridge, if you don't want to get annoyed because the lack of black ink.
