The Complete Photo Guide to Felting

I cannot say enough about this book. It is so well done.-When it says photo guide, Ruth Lane isn't kidding. There are photos of everything and every step that you could possibly need to have a photo. The pictures are clear and simple without a lot of extra in the frame. The layout of the pictures is clean and well thought out with plenty of spacing between each.- The layout of the book is very well thought out. Nothing is rushed or compressed. The text is a nice readable size and in manageable chunks so that you don't get lost in the instructions when using it for reference.-The content is without a doubt complete. It starts with where does wool come from, including a picture of a sheep, and moving through cleaning, preparing and processing the wool into your felted item.There are few craft books I would give 5 out of 5 stars. There is always something that throws me off from patterns being laid across text, text bunched up to reduce page count, just a couple of pictures to demonstrate a technique, tiny text to small to read, bad fonts, lots of extra miscellaneous graphics that distract from the content but this book has none of that. I liked it so much that I instantly went searching for other books by Ruth Lane and the publisher to see if I could find other amazing books put together this well.This book is perfect for anyone interested in felting. You won't be disappointed.

The Complete Photo Guide to Felting May I say that this book is worth every cent? The price was reasonable, and when I bought it was going to look at it for wet felting techniques. After getting it and reading through it, I've found myself completing a dry felting design on a iPhone case I made.I like how the book has oodles and oodles of color pictures, which are of excellent quality. They have inspired me to do think of projects that I wouldn't even have thought of doing.I would recommend this book to be a reference for all types of felting. It's a real keeper!

I have used this wonderful book along with Uniquely Felt to really get a deeper understanding of Traditional Felting methods. I fell in love with felted clothing while I was in Europe and wanted to learn to make it. Here in the US there is so little information that I have had to create my own program to teach myself how to create Traditional and Nuno Felted projects. This book is an invaluable resource, and I am very glad to have it.

I am just beginning as a felter. I live in a rural area and need to learn on my own. Have purchased half dozen books so far. This is the best from an instructional point if view.

This is a great book for the beginner. I have moved beyond beginner, but I still enjoy this book for inspiration. It has some great tips about felting, fibers, dyeing etc. It tells you the difference between needle felting, wet felting, nuno felting, and what fibers are best for what you want to make. A very good book if you want to learn about felting. There is also a good resource page to help you find anything you need to get started. Highly recommended, especially for beginners wanting to learn.

This book is "The Bible of Felting Arts." It is a step by step approach to felting, with very detailed photos. As a beginner, I needed to know felter's terms, types of wools, characteristics of each type of felting material, how and where to buy products, places to see felting artists at work, what to use on specific projects; but most of all, I needed this to be put in a simple language that I could understand. This book has it all. I highly recommend it.

The book is an excellent resource for felters but I will say I expected a little more from this resource about needle felting. This book spends over half the book on wet felting - something I'm not interested in. That is the only reason I'm not giving it five stars. If you are into any kind of felting, want step by step information about wet felting, different types of wool and why to use them, this book is filled with easy to understand instructions and very clear, crisp photography. It is quite a comprehensive book and I supposed I should have read more reviews since I'm only interested in needle felting at this time - but overall, this is a very good resource.

This is a lovely book for the beginner, teacher or more advanced. The color photos are plentiful and it is compiled like well written, online tutorials, for the different facets of felting. It includes:-- 3 dimensional felting-- 2 dimensional felting onto a felt surface like a sweater or boot-- shoes, slippers, boots-- scarves, clothing-- different types of fibers (including synthetic blends) and their qualities, what they are appropriate for-- needle felting-- art pieces+ moreI gave this as a gift, and wish I had ordered one for myself. A very nice guide to felting.

If you only buy one book 📖,buy this one. How this differs with other books, it has 18 pages at the beginning about different types of wool, explaining in detail. It then goes onto explain about carding and dyeing wool. It has step by step photos all the way through, which are very helpful. There are then three main sections, Wet Felting, Nuno Felting and then Needle Felting. My only gripe and it is a very small one, at the top of the page there are colours for the different sections. I would have preferred this to have the title of the chapter and then it would make it easy to find things. Also, the quality of the paper is not the best. Having said that if your looking for a book to start you off, then this is the book to get. Once you get going, you would then want a book which was more intermediate and more design led.

Excellent photo illustrations on technique for different kinds of felting, but not many inspiring designs. And oh dear - all the needle-felted figures look like they're out of the Wonga adverts! So - good on technique, poor on design. Depends what you want out of the book. If you are interested in the design side, I can recommend 'Art in Felt and Stitch' by Moy Mackay.

I have just discovered the joys of felting and wanted a book which explained how to approach the many and varied possibilities of working with this medium.There are many books about the various items to be created but few which explain step by step or have such clear tables as to which wool breed does which job best.The photo's are large and easy to follow.Thrilled with this very well laid out book and the author has clearly gone to great lengths to inspire, inform and share her passion for this wonderful art form.

I highly recommend this book - I know I will use it time and time again. It's a substantial book packed with useful information and clearly written with experience. Every technique is explained, step-by-step, in an easy to understand way and accompanied by colour photographs. Fibre preparation, carding, dyeing, traditional wet felting, needle felting (by hand and machine) and nuno felting are all covered in depth. The thing I like best about this book is the author's willingness to share all her knowledge - nothing is held back.

This book is a comprehensive guide to both wet and needle felting. It has loads of colour pictures and projects to attempt as well as a guide to various types of wool and how they felt. Full of information on how to begin felting and proceed with this craft. It is American, however everything seems to translate pretty well and so far I've not had to google a uk equivalent. I would definitely recommend.
