Works well. No squashed sound, just evens off some of the louder bits of your signal the way a compressor should. Given the fact you can pay a lot more for something that won't be as subtle and natural sounding, I consider it good value for the price paid.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I love Ampeg gear and this pedal did not disappoint! It really wakes up the tone on my PJ Bass with passive Geezer Butler EMG pickups. It’s the first pedal in my signal chain.

I wanted a simple easy to use compressor. Not a "flat top" limiter, but a dynamic compressor. This opto compressor uses a simple approach to compression that softly rides the gain, filling out the bass tonality. As an avid bass player and 50 year commercial audio professional, the simplicity of this compressor and the quality of the audio, sans artifacts, has made this my go to gig compressor.
