Just like the vintage banana clips!
I was using a banana clip my mom had used. It eventually broke one day so I was on the hunt for a replacement that could handle my thick curly hair. This clip is perfect! And nearly identical to the old vintage one I was using. It holds my hair all day. It doesn’t hurt or pull the hair. It’s also super comfortable if I need to lean back against a headrest. That’s one reason why I prefer them over standard claw clips!I think the reason why people struggle so much is because they don’t use it correctly or buy the incorrect size for their hair. You don’t need a huge clip for thin hair. Thicker hair will need a bigger clip. There is a learning curve to use but I’ve always flipped my hair over, pulled my hair into a pony, placed the clip under, flipped my head back over and secured.

Cute!
love it! never understood how to use these in the 90s/2000s but glad they’re coming back. it adds a lot more volume and makes your pony tail look longer. my hair is naturally wavy, but straightened in these pics. i also have some pretty short layers. the key is to flip your head upside down and use the comb to drag the hair up a little, then flip right side up and clip at the top. it holds for me pretty well and is easy enough to fix if my hair slips out a bit. I imagine this would hold even better when your hair has some texture/wave/curl.

Very small …
This 4.5 inch French Banana Clip is VERY SMALL. The 4.5 inches are the measurement of the entire clip including the hinge and the clasp. The teeth-part that holds your hair in place is less than THREE INCHES long. I supposed it might work on someone with less than a dozen hairs on their head, but I have a normal head of hair so it has become a $9.99 cat toy. Seriously, if you are considering getting this, you should probably size up an inch or two.

Loosens with wear.
I have very thick hair so I got the 7" size. It worked very well at first, but now the sides have bent out, so it's not holding my hair in as well. Disappointing for the price. It's not very sturdy.

Great for thick hair
I have thick hair, and this clip allows me to pull my hair up quickly and it stay in place for hours.

flimsy for the money
this is kind of flimsy for the money. my hair is straight and thick and this does not hold it very well at all. I am dissapointed

Durable and comfortable clip
I have very fine & slippery hair but a lot of it, and the 4.5" size is perfect for comfortably and securely keeping my hair out of my face and off my neck. It doesn't leave a crimp or rip out hair. Compare to banana clips that use wire and elastic, I like that these are much more durable and won't stretch or deform over time. I definitely plan to order in more colors!
