"An Illustrated Pocket Primer on Fossils & Evolution"
"Fossils: A Guide to Prehistoric Life"", by Frank Rhodes, H. Zim & Paul Shaffer, St. Martin's Press, NY 2002, ISBN: 1-58238-142-9, PB 100 pgs., Index 4 pgs. Inveiglements include 481 full-color illustrations of fauna & flora fossil, and museum quality diorama of extinct creatures. 6" x 4".This pocket-sized book is handy to carry, provides a clear overview with hundreds of colorful illustrations by Prof. Raymond Perlman (Univ. of Ill.) of plant & animal fossils and contains useful notations of species found at various timelines. The lead author Rhodes, President of Cornell University, had ready access to some of the finest specimens and documents available. As an introduction and pocket guide this primer is to be recommended, and useful for full spectrum of age groups to all wanting ready access to reliable basic information on paleontology. Unfortunately, the list of nine textbooks and references tabulated on page 25 is outdated (1936 to 1962) and no mention, even in passing, is made of DNA. Nonetheless, as a pocket primer it is not excelled and the price is right.finis

An Awesome Little Book
Good buy for the money. I started fossil hunting last year, and I found prehistoric shark teeth, shells, trilobites, etc.. I’m a novice, however this little book has been very helpful. The pics, description & historical info was awesome, and the size of the book can easily fit in anyone’s backpack or back pocket. In short, it’s highly recommended for any age, easy to read & carry, and good value for money.

Great starter fossil book for kids.
I still had the original printing from 1962 and discovered that my 4-year old grandson, a dinosaur nut and "fossil collector," loved it. Partly I believe because of the drawings, and also the small book size which was manageable for him. I went to Amazon thinking if anyone had an old copy, they would. Lo and behold it was a new printing, but only cover and title pages. And thrilled that the author, Frank T. Rhodes, was now shown as (former) President, Cornell University as opposed to Professor of Geology, University of Michigan. As a Cornell alum who knew him, I was proud that my grandson had the newer version. He walked around clutching it and showing everyone who would listen, what each sketch or diagram was. Again, the portability was key!! A wonderful gift for inquisitive kids, and also great for adults who want an introduction to the fossil world.

Thank you very much for a beautiful small book for adults and children alike.
Thank you very much for this very nice book. The books that I am buying and so very anctios for aree to give away to children to teach to learn more about the earth. And I must find one about meteors etc. I have one little girl who wants to know everything, and I myself know nothing.. So any advice is appreciated. By the way--this is to Amazon--I am sending people to you to purchase the book on Crohns disease. It has helped me greatly and I am sending people to you for this book of advice and recipes. You will see the book that I refer to in my previous orders.

Small yet informative
Book is very small yet it holds a lot of information. The only problem is that with the small size comes some very small print. My eyesight isn't bad, but there are things I need to use a magnifying glass to read. Still this is a small and mighty book.Side note: I have not read everything throughout so if there are some outdated science in this, I'm not sure of it. I do know there is a taildragger T. Rex in this. So I'm sure there is more inaccurate art in it, however how out of date is the information?
