Great For A Student!
I initially bought this computer two months ago, as a school laptop. I got the Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 128GB - Platinum. **PROS** Keyboard: Upon first glance, the keyboard was my favorite. It has a very soft but hard texture. It also has a backlit keyboard, so you can type in the dark. This is great if you are a student and trying to finish your homework at 2 in the morning. Face recognition: I set it up so that it can recognize me with both my glasses on and without. You can also set it up so that it recognizes you with different pairs of glasses. Touchscreen: I love the touchscreen! I downloaded so many games, like Candy Crush and Angry Birds, that need a touchscreen to complete the experience. On Explorer, you can take Web Notes, which is where a screenshot is taken of the website you are viewing, and you can digitally write on it. The Surface Pen is great if you prefer writing/drawing things out instead of typing. Also, there is a Windows Ink Workspace, which gives you the options of Sticky Notes, a Sketchpad, or a Snip and Sketch (screenshot). Notes: There are so many features and I just can't seem to discover them all! The brightness levels change according to the brightness of the room, which is pretty interesting. Charger: The charger connects with the laptop very easily. It is magnetic, so if you trip on the wire, it won't ruin the charger. The head of the charger also lights up to signal when it is charging. The charger also contains a USB port that can be used for charging your phone. **CONS** Laptop Ports: There is only one USB port, a Mini DisplayPort, a headphone jack, and a Surface connect port (for charging). The single USB port makes me mad because I can never plug more than one thing in. I have to unplug and replug, over and over again. I've never used the DisplayPort, and I'm not really sure what it's for. And although, I've given the keyboard high praises, it DOES turn brownish after a while due to sweaty hands. Overall, I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a new laptop. Update 3 years later: The keyboard will discolor after a while, so I had to buy a keyboard sticker in order to cover the dark spots. Other than that, my laptop is still going strong!

Great laptop!
I searched for a laptop for school for several weeks, combing through hundreds of reviews and types. I decided on this one based on overall price point and reviews. Overall, this is an awesome laptop. It charges really fast and the battery life is pretty good. I love that it starts right up and recognizes your face as soon as you open it. It is durable and super fast. I use it mainly for taking exams, Microsoft office, and other things for school. I love the draw feature on it especially for lectures. You don’t really need the stylus pen. Overall, I have been pleased with this laptop and would definitely recommend it especially for the price point. It is super quiet and light weight as well!

After a month use, I enjoy my Surface Laptop 2!
Overall, it’s a good device. But I’m so unimpressed by windows environment. Boring and outdated! I’m surprised that windows are still around while Mac is miles ahead in design and functionality. Mac comes fully loaded while you even have to pay for Office basics in windows. Update after a month use: Although I have still the same objection about the Windows' lack of creativity and focus on customers needs, my experience with Surface Laptop 2 was delightful after a month use. I very much like its design and versatility. Battery life is lower than it is described in the product specifications but still gives a decent time with each recharge. The display is gorgeous and the keyboard couldn't simply be better. I'd still give 4 stars because of the operating system. On the side note, I want to reiterate other customers' concern about background memory usage. I usually experience around 50% memory usage in idle times when no application or browser is open. I hope it will be fixed with future firmware updates.

Purchase! Great Battery & Lightweight!
This laptop is absolutely amazing, lightweight, portable, and starts up quickly. I haven't had any issues with it and the battery really does seem to last for a long time. I leave it on hibernate a lot, and I don't have to plug it in frequently. I am a novelist by trade, and this is the perfect tool to use. It's a little bigger than a sheet of paper. It also is excellent for school work, and any other various projects you may have. Definitely worth the purchase.

Awesome laptop
I absolutely love my Surface Laptop. It's lightweight, the battery has good life and I love the touch screen. I didn't purchase through Amazon, however. They could not ship to my area. It was ordered from a 3rd party vendor and it was shipped, but 4 days later UPS sent it back as they could not ship to my area which took another several days to be returned before my account was credited. Anything with a NiCad battery cannot be shipped via air. I ended up buying the laptop locally (which was brought in via ship).

Laptop broke after 6 months of use
If I can offer any piece of advice, do not buy this laptop. If you do, be sure to figure out how to set up a "Bitlocker" key as soon as you open the new laptop. This is a key that keeps all of your storage and information (documents, photos, etc) saved on the computer. When I got my laptop new, it did not ask me to create a "bitlocker" key. I opened my laptop one day and it wouldn't turn on, I tried everything - went through numerous calls with Microsoft (who has a terrible customer service system I might add) and here I sit months later with a broken laptop. The laptop asked for a bitlocker key, which I was never given, and I have been locked out of my laptop ever since. Terrible product, skip it and buy an Apple product it'll be worth your money and save you stress and time.

Battery cord is a bit short.
Laptop 2 i5 for under $1,000 has been spectacular since received. Highly recommended for students, professionals, business travelers, and especially anyone who types a lot; the keyboard is extremely comfortable. Because the laptop is compact it is limited to one (1) USB port & one (1) on the battery cord / charger pack. Being not much of a touch-screen person myself - the "shut down and drag" feature is really nice when packing up and on the go. Overall a quick and easy to use laptop. Great laptop for the price!

It's pretty eh
The laptop is ok. Not spectacular, but ok. It looks awesome and boots in seconds, but these aren't the specs if you're looking for powerful processing capabilities, and that's probably what I needed since I'll be working full-time on this device. Above all else, the most annoying thing is the power adapter. After just 5 months, the adapter just suddenly stopped working correctly without any warning. Once it stops working I then have to perform this crazy ritual of moving it to another power source, unplugging and plugging in each connection, and spinning the plug around in the port on my laptop until it eventually starts charging again. Yes, this is the troubleshooting solution provided by Microsoft for this thousand dollar laptop. It could be charging one minute, and I'll pop the plug out of my laptop to readjust, and once it disconnects it won't charge again until I perform the stupid cable ritual all over again, even if it was just unplugged for a second. Sometimes the ritual doesn't work at all, and I'm stuck with a dead laptop until the charger is ready to charge again. It's too late to return it, so I'm probably going to end up selling it.
