A decent external hard drive for home desktop backup
I formatted the drive into EXT4 to suit my home linux desktop machines. I am getting a write speed between 90-110 MB per second on an average. Around 700 GB of data was copied onto the drive in little more than 2 hours time using rsync commandline tool. Only glitch I have noticed is that while running huge write operations, the blue light turns RED. As per documentation provided in Amazon offer, it means some error. I am not able to follow what is causing it. Beyond the fact that RED LED is glowing, it is functioning without any issues. Is that a firmware glitch? Once we pause the backup, remove the drive and resume, BLUE LED starts glowing back though.

Great for those like me who have to use technology outdoors. I put all my backups on this. It's very resistant to damage and does what is advertised. It's not extremely lightweight but that's not the criteria I'm judging this by. It is actually 3.6 not 4 terabytes even after I formatted the drive but I don't have enough files to fill this up. Does have an issue with my computers in that they won't boot up while this is plugged in. I have to plug the drive in after my PC's start.

This is a good product and feels very rugged. I wanted something with high capacity for a cost that was not going to break me and pretty good speeds. It's portable, great value for money, and a very high capacity. Of course it would have been lovely to get an SSD drive of this capacity for the same price, but that's just not going to happen at the moment. I am really happy with it, it's double the size the drive I replaced, and usually writes files at 100 + megabytes per second which in all honesty is well fast enough for me.
