This internal Air Bleed Assembly worked flawlessly! The old one had been eaten away by chlorine and the screen was nowhere to be found. What's the purpose of this internal air bleed assembly? It prevents D.E. (and small particles/waste that the filter does not catch) from entering the pool while the pump is running. Now, if you put too much D.E. into the filter, more than the recommended amount, you can find the D.E. being forced back into the pool. This is expected (although you should only add just the amount needed/suggested). However, you should never have D.E. regularly enter back into the pool. That's the issue I had due to having no screen/mesh on the old air bleed assembly. After I vacuum, I always find "sand" (D.E.) at the bottom of my pool, spreaded out quite evenly. I also had some small debris collecting at the end of my pool where the return line is. The debris collected around the bottom as the lack of a screen/mesh prevented this from occurring. So, I ordered a new air bleed assembly and the results are night and day. I took a picture of what my pool looks like early morning before my pump turned on for the day (I let it run for 8 hours from 10-6pm). As you can see when the water is still and everything has a chance to settle, you can see some d.e. and debris collecting at the bottom of the pool and around the deep end where the return line is. The next picture is clear with no d.e. or debris. The new internal air bleed assembly has done its job. To replace the internal air bleed assembly, gently pull out the old one (moving back and forth to loosen it as you pull it out). Then insert the new one by simply sliding it in, and with the notches lining up. Simple as that!...UPDATE: took another picture with the sun out, you can see the difference!
