DO NOT BUY FROM THIS MANUFACTURER
The chair lift arrived yesterday and I was so excited to try it out because my arthritis make it almost impossible for me to stand. I really wanted to order a full lifting recliner chair but unfortunately it's not in my budget. I'm 75 years old and live alone. The chair lift arrived quickly, but to my surprised it would not turn on.I tried it in almost every outlet in my home and nothing. I call the manufacturer, Carex, and they gave me different things to try to get it going but it would never come on. Finally Carex realized that it was a defected item BUT refused to offer a replacement or refund. They said due to covid they couldn't take it back. I begged for a refund. I don't have $100 just to throw away. They refused.I called Amazon and they said the manufacturer will not refund. The next morning I was forced to call my daughter to help me with this. We have been on the phone with Amazon for over an hour and they were still not trying to refund this broken item. My daughter read through all of the refund policies and found this" "If the seller's listing is eligible for Amazon Prime, it will be subject to the same return policies as items fulfilled by Amazon.com". The Amazon rep finally issued a refund and instructed me to throw the item away because the manufactory don't want it back. Please DO NOT BUY FROM CAREX unless you want to throw your money down the drain and be stuck with a broken product.

Temporary solution, not here!
Bought this for my father when he had open heart surgery. He has difficulty using his legs when getting out of a typical recliner so he used his arms a lot, which is something they do not recommend while recovering from that type of surgery. We were needing something quick as he got to come hope earlier than expected and we could get this faster than one of those lift chairs. This was "supposed" to be a quick temporary solution while we shopped for a lift chair/recliner. It works so well that he decided he didn't need anything more. Basically just put it on his regular recliner and plug it in, works great plus more affordable. If you have a loved one that needs assistance getting in and out of a chair, this is a great option. No regrets here!

Up/down switch is hard to move
I bought this for my mother last month. It works well, and lifts her fine, but the big problem with this unit is the switch that makes the cushion go up and down. It is a mechanical lever that tends to get squished when you have this cushion on top of another cushion (like an EZ chair). It is very hard to move, and she doesn't even use it anymore because she cannot move the lever. I would not recommend this cushion. If I knew about this issue, I would have bought one with an electrical switch, not one with a mechanical lever. she just doesn't have the strength to move it.

Not for someone that REALLY needs help...
Purchased with intent of a Father's Day present -- Had to return.First, it's 'made well' (i.e. sturdy) but it's very uncomfortable. A person can not sit on this for long periods of time. If it's going to be of use, you need to sit on it...so...Second, it doesn't work well in upholstered furniture -- it works a little better on a hard surface such as a wooden chair.Who (especially the elderly) sits in a hard chair for long periods of time? Finally, although it does lift you up off the seat (a bit), it doesn't actually get you in an upright or standing position or one that would allow you to go from point A to point B. With regard to my father, it got him up about as far as he is currently able to manage on his own (when he doesn't totally konk out) but it doesn't actually go that extra mile of getting him UP. Even if he were KONKED OUT totally, it doesn't help enough to get him from point A to B...I think the Reclining Chair might be better. They are more money and that's the ONLY chair you can sit in if you have issues but...this doesn't do the trick. To be honest, we haven't tried the chair (so don't take this as my 'review') but we know other people who have that say it's good. The only other option are our EMTs -- so far they've been great when we've had problems!

Worked great.
Ordered this for my 92 year old father. It worked very well for him for a couple of days but he was put on hospice care soon after. He almost slid off of it, so be sure the person using it has leg muscles to hold themselves up when in full tilt. My 82 year old mother is in good health but has scoliosis and had to pull herself up out of a recliner. She started using the lift and it was great! It slowly lifts her up and down and she's really happy with it. She's a small woman. We both thought the little plastic levers to activate the lift looked a little flimsy, but so far so good. For a heavy/large person (over 200 lb's) the levers (located on each side in front of the lift)could possibly be in their "legs" way.

Mechanism failed on the first day
We purchased this unit in January 2013. After taking it out of the box, we tried it on a couple of different chairs and a couch. We used it approximately 10 times the first day.On softer seating, it does sink in to the cusion a bit as expected. The operation of paddles used to control up and down movement were impeded by cushion. The paddles are removable, but again, the cusion will impede insertion and removal of those paddles. It will lift a person up about halfway to a standing position. It will not lift you completely out of your seat.It is rather narrow, and can become uncomfortable after extended sitting periods. After our tests of the unit in various seating situations, spaced out over several hours, the unit stopped functioning properly. The seat would rise up under load only about a third of the way, and stop moving. The motor was still running however. The unit did rise up completely with no load. It would lower all the way whether under load or not.We allowed the unit to cool, but that had no impact on the faulty operation. The unit is rated for up to 300 lbs, and we both are under that weight.Amazon accepted the item in return for a full refund.
