DAVIS BUSCH'S NIKON D60 GUIDE TO DIGITAL SLR PHOTOGRAPHY
This book is fantastic. It covers everything you need to know about your Nikon D60 SLR camera. It is a lot more fun reading this book than reading your manual, especially because there are 321 pages to read, and the reading IS fun. Chapters include:SETTING UP YOUR NIKON D60:FIRST THINGS FIRST,NIKON D60 ROAD MAP,SETTING UP YOUR NIKON D60:ANATOMY OF THE NIKON'SD60 MENUS,GETTING THE RIGHT EXPOSURE,ADVANCED SHOOTING TIPS FOR YOUR NIKON D60,WORKING WITH LENSES,MAKING LIGHT WORK FOR YOU,USEFUL SOFTWARE FOR YOUR NIKON D60, andNIKON D60:TROUBLESHOOTING AND PREVENTIONThis manual has many close up pictures of all of the functional dials and buttons, which make it very easy to see and understand what and where to find the right settings you will want for particular pictures. Explanations are in layman's terms, and so it was very easy for me to understand and follow David's instructions. I suggest any newbie (like me) or intermediate photographer to buy this manual as it is a perfect teaching tool for the above mentioned persons.ALSO, READ PHOTO PHUNNY, FREDM, N.V. MILLS, AND EDWARD JACKSON's "ED" REVIEWS. GO BY THEIR REVIEWS, AS WELL. YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THIS BOOK!

Must have companion for Nikon D-60
Written by a Nikon expert, this book clarifies not only the functions of D-60 but also explains the general concepts of photography. D60 is an entry-level DSLR and most of its users are either amateurs or new photography enthusiasts who are graduating from a point-and-shoot camera to real photography. And Dave Busch has kept this fact in mind while writing this guide. This is literally a complete guide. It starts right from opening that camera box to connecting the cable to computer, and what not. You can skip over these details and come to the chapters detailing the photography concepts and how to best use them in your D60. Remember, it is NOT a Field-Guide. Chapters are NOT divided by settings for Macros, sport mode, nature etc. Rather it is very well divided into Understanding the Menu, Getting Right Exposure, Advanced tips, Lenses, Lighting etc.Initially I was a bit disappointed by the book, since it is not a field-guide, but later I realized that this approach has helped me to get a good hold of the concepts and now I am able to play around with my camera and its settings, rather than just memorizing them. There are also suggestions for buying the accessories, lenses, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance. Everything is well-explained using lots of pictures, which helps a lot. After all, it is a guide for a DSLR..!!!!

Demystifying the menus
I struggled for over a year with my new Nikon D60, relying upon the auto mode for important shots and ineffectively experimenting with and puzzling over how to use the more advanced features of this great camera. I read the manual that came with the camera from front to back, but found it of little help when I was trying to accomplish something simple like changing the focal range of an image. David Busch's Nikon D60 Guide to Digital SLR Photography has demystified my camera. This book is the perfect resource for anyone who is baffled by the multi-layered menus, buttons, and gadgets on their DSLR.The book leads the user through the basics of where all the settings are, how to use them, and how to personalize them. In addition to explaining the functions and menus, Busch also explains how to employ them to achieve the correct exposure. He goes on to:* List compatible lens choices and describe the potential uses for each lens.* Explain a variety of lighting situations and offer suggestions on how to deal with them.* Describe several types of photo-editing software-- without going into detail about the separate art of using them.* Provide a section on advanced shooting tips and one on troubleshooting.Busch's book is organized and formatted to answer specific questions quickly. Crisp, clean images work with the text to further clarify his explanations. In very few instances, conflicting or different terminology is used to describe the same thing. For example; in his description on page 79 of the Optimize Image function, he refers to "color mode," which in the illustration on the following page is labeled as "hue modification." There were several similar discrepancies between the text and illustration on pages 62 and 63. And, on page 166, it took me a while to find where the "sub-command dial" is located and where in the book, this feature was discussed.Aside from these minor glitches, I would recommend this book to experienced photographers who are new to the Nikon format as well as to relative neophytes like me.
