The best case for a klutz, stronger rubber than old model
I am very happy with this Otterbox case for my iPhone 5. I have been using it for about a month. It's my second Otterbox and the product has improved greatly since the earlier Defender model for iPhone 4 that I got two years ago. This case is sturdy and rugged. The rubber outer part does not slip off easily. In fact, it requires some real fingernails to pry the rubber part off and I do end up using my teeth to open the plastic casing. That is a drawback, but on the other hand, you don't want it to be flimsy. Plus, you don't need to remove the case all the time like with the old Otterbox because this one keeps water out pretty well. If you spill a few drops of water on the clear plastic, it actually does not immediately permeate into the phone and create those water spots. Granted, you should make sure it's all dry inside regardless. This case offers tighter protection than the older model for sure. I've dropped the phone a couple times and don't even wince when I do. The orange and grey are great colors. I usually go with simple black and wanted to shake it up -- and I don't feel too out of my element with this two tone case. The grey is kind of a medium dark heather grey and the orange is a slightly dark orange. The picture is pretty accurate for the colors. The rubber flaps for the ports are the weakest structural points in the case simply because they get used so often. The flaps for the headphone jack and the lightning charger port are holding up well but I will be interested to see how they are in six months after daily pulling open and closing. They're certainly sturdier than the old model which was more bendable and flimsy rubber that ended up ripping over time.Overall, get this case if you are prone to dropping your phone but don't want something absolutely bulky and ridiculous like some of those construction worker/outdoor adventure cases that double the size of the phone. However if you need to remove your phone from your case frequently (at least once a day) this will get to be a pain because it's not that easy to slip off.

Very protective
I like the OtterBox Defender Series Case for it's protection. The design give you confidence that your iPhone 5 is very well protected. It is however kind of bulky. The texture provides for a very secure grip in your hands. It does not go in and out of the pockets well. I don't like belt clips in general and the belt clip that comes with the Defender Series is obviously large to accommodate the case. I read reviews prior to buying this item and agree that the belt clip immediately scuffs up the case in the area that it clips on. I was not happy after just one or two uses there is a visible scuff. I have had a problem with the clear screen protector, that is the top part of the two piece inner plastic part. It seems to pull away just enough to create a bubble and show a rainbow of distortion on the screen. This is not a major problem, but it caught my attention immediately. When I got home I took the iPhone out and then back in again. It went away, but came back. I originally thought it was because of the tightness of the belt clip, but it did it again without the use of the belt clip. I stopped using the belt clip because of this problem. I hope to use the belt clip on my golf bag, and hope this is not a reoccurring problem. The second time it happened it went away without removing the iPhone.I would recommend this case for people who need protection. It "is" a little bulking, but if protection is your goal this OtterBox is the best. All the buttons on the iPhone work perfectly and the ports are protected. The channel for the sound / speaker seem to enhance the sound. I do like the idea of the screen protection built into the case without sticking on a film that never seems to go on without a bubble. This is not my first OtterBox case. I recommend OtterBox. It was a good price as well at Amazon.com.

Best way to protect iphone 5
This is my second Otterbox Defender case for iphone. The first case I purchased was for an iphone 4 and this most recent case was for my new iphone 5. First off, I applaud Otterbox for making improvements to the case over previous versions. The "silicone" material around the plastic case is of a much more durable quality than the material used in my iphone 4 case and appears less likely to stretch out of shape. Also, the plastic case seems to be of a harder material than before. Unfortunately, the stronger rigidity of the plastic and the thicker silicone outer casing makes the port covers on the case slightly more difficult to open. This is not a major issue but I thought it worth mentioning. As expected, the Defender case adds considerable bulk to the iphone. However, I'm willing to live with the bulk to ensure my phone is protected. Also, with the additional belt clip outer case the entire phone feels secure and protected from accidental drops and bumps. One issue with the outer belt clip housing is the plastic bit on the clip itself can dig into your side if you sit while wearing the case on your belt. I did it once and it hurt so much I now instinctively remove the case before I get in my car.I also applaud Otterbox's customer service and warranty. Within two weeks after I received the case a noticeable gouge/scratch appeared in the plastic cover over the iphone touch screen. Not sure what caused the gouge, but it took a single email on their website to get a replacement free of charge. In summary, if you are looking to protect your iphone, the Otterbox provides the best case currently on the market.

There's not much chance of damaging your phone with one of these!
I got one of these to protect my phone while on holiday at the beach as I know what I'm like after a drink or two - well that and the fact my seven month old loves to see how far anything she can get hold of bounces! This is a really substantial case and is really easy to fit - literally pop the rubber cover off, unlock the clasps holding the plastic shell in place and then just drop in your phone and put everything back together.I don't know what the screen protector is made of but you wouldn't even know it's there which is the best thing you can say - just make sure you've cleaned your phone first, otherwise you'll spot even the smallest hair or piece of dust in there.I've had things like the Incipio Feathers in the past and the Apple bumpers but this is in a whole other league - definitely worth it for people with manual work where there's more chance you'll drop it!The only negative thing I will say is that this case makes it harder to activate the screen swipe up from the bottom that is in iOS 7. It's easy with nothing on the phone but you just need to do it slowly with the tip of your thumb with this case in place. To be fair that's a minor thing and people with small hands probably won't have this problem anyway (with small hands they've probably got more to worry about anyway!)

Great case for protection but do you really need that much protection ?
The otter box defender first and for most is with out a doubt the best case out there for drop protection. If you are rock climbing or on a construction site buy the case and don't read on, but if you do constantly fret over your devices well being and want to make sure it is crisp and clean when you take it out before the selling of the phone then you should buy this, but the two downsides to protection are the front facing camera slot is large which is needed for the sensors but warning screen protector will help prevent scratches. Secondly a back screen protector will help because the camera slot is oversized, there is no need for it to be that big and you will also pick up scratches. If you love the iPhone sleekness at design please don't fritter your money the case is bulky and for me after a month I am looking for a case that is less covered up.Think before you buy are you a clumsy person, do you work on a construction site or heavy endurence jobs were your phone is compromised, if so go ahead this is an epic case. If you are for the protection of you device and like the design of the iPhone get a slimmer case and glass screen protector, apparently great combo and i am moving that way.

The case itself is OK however it wasn't immediately clear ...
The case itself is OK however it wasn't immediately clear which exact model phone it was designed for, hence when it arrived it was not compatible with my I-phone 5c and I had to try and sell it on. It should be stated in the description exactly which phones are, and are not compatible for us technophobes.

Genuine Otterbox
The Otterbox is heavily copied and I have had very bad experience in the past with counterfeit items, which are of very poor quality. Some of the counterfeit items were even being unwittingly despatched by Amazon. This item is genuine and fits as an Otterbox should. Please be aware of counterfeit items and do your homework and view other people’s feedback before purchasing. It can save a lot of time and avoidable disappointment. You may have to pay more for genuine items, but trust me it’s worth it. You are protecting a very costly item with an Otterbox, so a few pounds more it definitely worth it.

OtterBox Defender
Very robust, and feels sturdy. The belt clip is a turn off, I feel that an option would have been to offeer a fold over cover. My clip will be destined for the drawer. Colour choice was my main reason for buying.
