Broken LED Light
It worked fine for two days and the third day it turned on and off constantly at random. After looking at it I heard it rattling around and found the light was broken inside the white housing. I was happy when I bought it and disappointed at the quality. It definitely needs a stronger led for any plants to survive nothing will grow from 3 watts . :(

Doesn’t work
I attempted to grow lemon balm (herb) at my desk at work. The seed germinated and then...nothing. The light worked, the timer worked and though I can’t speak to the efficacy of the plant nutrients, I will say that it is doubtful that plants will receive enough light from the weak LED included with this system.

Perfect for small to medium plants!
Works great! Small footprint, excellent lighting. Allows for plenty of growth.

The light is most important, and it works.
I bought this on a Groupon discount, but I have since purchased more through Amazon. I really only wanted the light and stand, I don't care about the "hydroponics kit". My thoughts after using it for several months:First, the good: The light is an effective grow light for low light plants. I am not sure how well it would work for high light plants. I first used it for a Peperomia Obtusifolia, and it produced very fast and vigorous growth in that plant, I was impressed. Now I am testing it out on some phalaenopsis orchids, and I will update the review after a few months. The light field is surprisingly broad, and I believe I can cluster 3-4 small orchids around and under it. Once I see how they grow over the course of a month or so, I will update. What matters is that the light works and I think that's the most important part of any kit like this. There is some contradiction in the listing and the package as to how long the photoperiod is. The box actually said in one place that the photoperiod is 18 hours, and in another place that it is 16 hours. For the record, the photoperiod is 16 hours, which is the maximum that any plant needs to thrive. The timer is convenient, but setting it is not: on the first day, you must be awake and plug it in at the moment you want it to come on. That part is odd and inconvenient, but I suppose expected at this price point.I like that the light pole is adjustable, I think this is very handy, especially with seedlings. However, the pole does NOT extend to 17.5 inches; It only extends to about 16.5 inches, maybe a little less. When you're dealing with a grow light, an inch or two can make quite a difference. The light has to be a few inches above the plant for coverage. The "biochar growth medium" is a plug of black rubber foam. I am not confident that any biochar is actually present in this medium, and if it were, I don't think it would be effective. Biochar needs to be in chunks to be really effective as a microbial powerhouse.
