Yes, you have to remove it a half turn to pull it off to install batteries unplug the button rotated, 180° and stick it in your pocket unless that person gets mugged it won’t get stolen

Q: Is it easy to replace the batteries while the horn is mounted or does the horn need to be removed to get to battery compartment ?

Yes it is easy to replace the batteries. To change the batteries, unplug the thumb button wire, then turn the horn body 90 degrees (quick release) and lift off the handlebar bracket. Replace batteries, then reverse the above procedure. Re-Plug the thumb button wire. The horn works very well and load enough for people to hear you coming.

Q: Unit works fine, but it sounds like there's a loose piece of plastic inside that rattles around when I shake the unit? Is that normal?

No! It should not sound like a rattle. If you are very concerned ask if you can return it for a replacement. Even if you are passed the return deadline, a reasonable company will allow for a replacement.
