Biomutant - PlayStation 4

Truly an amazing game.
I was quite disheartened when the reviews dropped for Biomutant the day before it released, and it garnered a 62 metascore. Most of the poor reviews mentioned the story was lame and bland, and shockingly they mentioned the game was under 20 hours in length, which is ridiculously short for an open world RPG.Despite the reviews, I went ahead and kept my preorder, and man what a great decision. Biomutant is certainly not a triple A title with insane CG cutscenes and famous voice actors. Instead, the cutscenes are typically worse looking than the game itself, and the entire game is narrated by a single British guy. However, if you like exploring and going places maybe you’re not supposed to, and you enjoy crafting and customizing your character, Biomutant may be one of the better open world RPGs on the PS4. The world is lush, vibrant, and full of weird and wonderful things. I’ve heard complaints that it feels empty. This is thousands of years after an apocalypse. Humans are long gone and rodents have evolved into humanoids. Is it so hard to believe that the planet isn’t teeming with intelligent life just yet? I am thoroughly enjoying exploring everywhere and finding secret places and new gear. I found the side missions to be varied and interesting with meaningful rewards. As far as the game world and what there is to do outside of the main story, I have zero complaints. I find the exploration similar to Fallout 4, where finding a new location and defeating whatever evil is inside rewards you with some cool rare loot. I’m having a blast. The other mechanic where Biomutant really sets itself apart is the crafting. This game has the best crafting I’ve seen period. I’ve always wanted to play an RPG where I feel like my character is truly unique; meaning I’m the only person in the world who has a character with my skills, weapons and armor. Many games have tried but eventually there’s always a couple weapons, armor sets and skills that are the consensus best picks. In Biomutant, crafting one weapon can utlilize 6-7 different components, and there are hundreds of each type of component, not to mention a dozen or so weapon types. Armor has up to 4 add ons you can use and there are hundreds of types of armor, pants, hats, face shields, etc. there are 4 types of environmental resistances as well. The character customization in Biomutant is absolutely amazing.Lastly, I’ve found the combat to be really fun, if a little on the easy side. Switching between melee and ranged is simple, and the developers are planning some patches for balance to improve the experience as well. I definitely feel overpowered with my guns right now, but at the same time I feel like I’ve earned that by exploring and crafting my way to an awesome weapon. In my opinion, the combat, though not the strongest part of Biomutant, is perfectly fine and enjoyable.Earlier I mentioned that some reviewers finished the game in under 20 hours. I’m almost 50 hours in and I’ve barely touched the main story. I’m very confident that if you want to see everything there is and go for the platinum trophy this game can easily take you upwards of 100 hours. I’m having a blast and I truly recommend ignoring the critics giving Biomutant a try. We need more developers willing to take a risk making a new and unique IP that tries some new stuff.

Relaxing, fun, and engaging
Biomutant is an open world, apocalyptic, action-roll playing game. You can swap between ranged, melee, and magic while in combat. Sometimes weapon elements like fire, ice, or electric are helpful for certain situations. Also, you might need to avoid certain elements or find protection from them. That can done from gear or skills. You will get skill points throughout the game for weapons, types of combat, speed, magic, and so on.There’s plenty of hidden stuff, and there are puzzles in most locations. Current game difficulty levels are easy, normal, and hard to choose from. Exploring the map is top notch so far, (maybe patch in respawning enemy groups). While exploring you can ride many types of things or use crafty gadgets to get around. There are tons of side quest that you can choose to do, including monster hunting. At some point you can choose a faction, and a aura (good/bad).The character creation was pretty interesting making a custom animal-type. Customization options for character creation and class are available at the start. Biomutant’s overall color scheme is pretty vibrant with neon green, bright blue, and orange projectiles for example. Some of the music sounds similar to Warhammer Chaosbane in the underground areas. The crafting in this game is really well done, as you can customize quite a few parts on some of the gear for example. The game runs decent on the PS4 slim, and you can play offline. Many save files are available.I’ve never seen a levitating cat shooting bright green, purple, and blue projectiles so I’d say it’s an innovative game.

Yet another let down….
Another game that over promise and under deliver… this game was supposed to come out in 2018… just got released and many things in the game feel unfinished. The combat is sloppy and some moves are overly complicated. Environments look good, but feel empty and lack of life or anything interesting to do… the game is a total let down. Don’t bother buying this game. If you really want to play it, wait a month or two until it’s on sale for 20 bucks… I mean the day after released they dropped it to 49.99…. THAT should tell you something. Good games don’t get discounted like that….

I like the game
I have been playing for a while and have created strange weapons, and acquired lots of powers. I am a casual gamer and not the kind that is going to memorize dozens of moves or even remember half of them in combat but I am still doing OK in the fighting. I have been doing quests and traveling, but struggling a bit with a boss fights when you have to fight a certain way. The game was worth it for me. I am a fan of Horizon: Zero Dawn, The Witcher, and The Ghost of Tshuma.

Really fun!
Really fun straight from the first scene and doesn't get boring. Lots to do and none of it gets tedious.

Huge let-down
After waiting for what felt like forever, I’m honestly so disappointed with this game. The graphics are awful and the interface feels very early 2000s Nintendo 64. For a game with as much hype as this had and for how long it took, I would’ve expected at least half decent graphics and less repetitive gameplay.

Not For Everyone
Best way I can describe this game is a shut off your brain, turn on a podcast, zen experience. It’s got good bones, but might be worth to wait a month or two for some hot fixes and updates to fix some minor bugs and maybe add some missions and overall quality of life improvements.

Broken box.
So, I got this as a gift for my fiancée for his birthday. It came in really fast, and he loves the game. But we got a broken game box when it was stated as NEW. Pretty bummed about that... As we gotta throw it in the trash since it’s cracked all along the bottom of the case.

Biomutant
Cute character and the gameplay gets better later, the begging is okie, though rough little in graphic, the updates improved game, not a AAA game, price should have been lower, I did enjoy the game

Underrated?
I believe an under rated game. It is not perfect but is fun to play in little batches here and there. The open world is beautiful and always something to fight or find.

Boring
I was immediately bored with this one. Too basic and too linear. Not much for the player to do. It has a great color palette and looks great. Ultimately, it was just not for me.
