Ready for summer!
As soon as the pie irons arrived I unscrewed the handles, melted some coconut oil and started getting them ready for the summer. They are now in a 450 oven with their second coat of oil while I am also refreshing my other cast iron pans. The size is perfect - you want the bread to seal. What I am looking for is a way to shorten the (unscrewed) handles so I can keep them in my Stanley lunch box setup to use as little frying pans or the pie iron they are intended to be. Shorter wood handles, shorter metal handles... If anyone has any ideas. Heavier than aluminum of course, but healthier.

Makes great smores
Bought this for a gift. It's so easy to use and clean. It heats up on a fire or grill which is neat. It can be used for almost anything, simple design makes it easy to use from a burger to vegetables and pies. Heavy so may not be easy for young kids to lift

Cast iron sandwich/S'more cooker
This is ok. It needs to be made in the same size as a piece of bread. Although it is heavy, my 9 year old can use it Just fine. Make sure to spray it with a cooking oil so food doesn't stick.

Things stick
We used this for the first time camping, I grew up using one like this and couldn't wait to use it with my kids. We started with grilled cheese in them. We sprayed with grill spray oil (which I do with all my cast iron) and one side had stuff stick to it that would not come off with just wiping or picking at it. I obviously don't want to use dawn on it, but I might have to answer then try to reseason, which is a pain. But, or did make grilled cheese. Normal size bread peekabout the edges and obviously gets charred and needs cut off, so overall I wish it was slightly larger (literally like 0.2" in each direction). But it brownes the bread nicely on the inside without burning it. I even made an egg sandwich in it the next morning and forgot it over the fire for a bit and it still didn't seem to overly burn the side to the fire, which was nice.So overall it's a great product, I just wish I didn't need to clean with soap and reseason after one use and that it was a tiny bit bigger.
