The Best Game!
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is an absolute blast. We just got it with our Switch 2 and we have had so much fun ad a family. It has tons of characters, it's fast-paced, and has smooth controls. I think it’s fun for both casual players and hardcore fans. The game offers local multiplayer, online battles and the impressive World of Light campaign. Matches are quick, exciting, and endlessly replayable, making it perfect for parties or solo play. It’s one of the best games on the Switch and a must-have for any Nintendo fan. Totally worth it!

Fun and have spent hours
It's a great game. I've played for years now both as a kid and adult and it's always fun. I think it's a classic game for the switch and it's good for groups if you are bored and want to play games.

Amazing Adventure Mode, Huge Character Pool, and Great Mechanics
Pros: The World of Light adventure mode is fantastic. Not only is it really fun to play with the addition of a progression system with the spirits, skill tree, and unlocking more fighters, but it also quite long and will take you many hours to fully play through. I actually quite enjoyed the spirit system and the many different spirit fights seem diverse enough that it doesn't really start to bore me. Maybe the only problem is the varied difficulty of fights. Most fights are insanely easy after you have a decent full leveled spirit, even on the highest difficulty, but you can always purposefully handicap yourself by using a weaker spirit if that's your thing. But also some of the fights were so insanely difficult and unfair that switching down to "easy" mode still made the fight take me 30 minutes of replaying to beat (and I'm pretty decent at the game). Honestly it wasn't even a downside for me I enjoyed the challenge and it wasn't a necessary fight for progressing. Huge character pool this time around. "Everyone is here!" Not an exaggeration over 80 characters will be on the roster after dlc and counting Pokemon trainer as multiple fighters. Obviously some of those are just slightly different echo fighters, but the diversity is still great. Just quick unlocking characters by restarting, unlocking, and restarting again took a long time. All the characters look great and feel great to play and play vs, though I haven't been able to use all of the extensively yet. I'm not a pro player by any stretch, but the fighting mechanics feel fluid and the engine seems well polished. I love that the heavy characters have been buffed by having their lag time for aerials and landing reduced. I like them making perfect shield harder/different as it will give pros something to develop skill wise as well. Hopefully the pro scene will be able to make something of this game as smash 4 was a bit of a let down (won't even talk about brawl). They also made training mode better, and allow you to play the game while waiting for an online match, but many other parts of online are less than desirable. Cons: Online mode is kind of taking a back seat here. I was really hoping we would be getting a more fine tuned and more competition oriented online mode, but got the opposite. They made online mode a for fun system, which I understand is the direction Sakurai wants to take with the game, but I just don't understand why they couldn't have given their competitive community a bone here. Online match making no longer has a For Glory mode. There is simply casual mode with a matchmaking system that puts you up against someone near your skill level based on an elo system on a per fighter basis. It also matches you with some with a game rule similar to your own, but not exact.... this has made me go into what I thought was a 1v1 no items match into an assist trophy free for all nightmare. This is also going to continue to create debates as to what the "official" competitive rule set will be for 1v1 online play. Overall the game is a great experience and was definitely worth the purchase and worth the wait. Tons of replayablity and fun for all levels of players.

Smash & Grab
Arguably, sometimes when it comes to gems for the Nintendo Switch, I sometimes head backwards & give them a chance rather than playing them at the moment. Arguably, I have been more of a light fan of the Super Smash Brothers series than a hard core one. I have played prior Super Smash Brothers games with the arcade fighting fun against the great foes like Master Hand & more updated characters like Ganondorf & Mega Man. Arguably, trying to head back into the franchise is definitely a challenge, but had some things that worked well, where others could've worked better. After finally getting to play Super Smash Brothers: Ultimate, I can finally say this is one of the best multiplayer games to master. Super Smash Brothers: Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch is one of the best multiplayer experiences you can get, right behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. You have a lengthy amount of content here, where you match & play against as many as 80 characters like Sonic The Hedgehog, Kirby, Luigi, Mario & Wario. This game has a lot of great matches that you can play & stages that celebrate video games' past like Green Hill Zone from Sonic The Hedgehog, the Metroid underworld, where you're battling with Mother Brain in the background. There are many different multiplayer fights with 100 smash battle & custom traditional fighting arcade modes for each character in the arcade mode. But where the game does shine, but truthfully shines too bright is the World Of Light adventure mode. Where you start as Kirby & he has to travel to unlock multiple fighters as you play the game to try & challenge the dark & light worlds where he can match against classic Smash Brothers foes like Crazy Hand, Giga Bowser & forgotten Nintendo enemies like Mark from the Kirby franchise & Dracula from the Castlevania franchise. The story feels kind of lightweight, where the content is good. I have found the game is fun, but could've been simplified in the end. Sometimes, navigating through the spirit trails can be frustrating & feels more like a exhaustion rather than a strength. But for easier gamers, you can simply tone down the difficulty to make your run though a bit easier. Graphically, the game looks great & has strong music to enjoy, but the control is easy to maintain, but can simply vary during challenges you play within the adventure mode. Still, multiplayer makes the control customizable & easier to maintain. There are a few disadvantages with the game though. One of them happens to be the Word Of Light. The world looks great, but it doesn't feel as cinematic as prior Super Smash Brothers titles. I actually thought the subspace embessary from Super Smash Brothers: Brawl was a bit more engaging & compelling to play. Another disadvantage is in the level changer where you add fog, swap gravity & add partner foes to help win matches is honestly tedious & can change the matches drastically. When I found out that the stage made a flip upside down to the point that I had to perform the fight in a mirror style by making my controller go left, so I could make the fighter head right to where I could win a match. Arguably, it was very exhausting & caused me to feel drained in the end. Whether you have played Super Smash Brothers in the past, or other fighting games like Street Fighter V, there is a lot to play & have fun with while playing Super Smash Brothers: Ultimate. It is a great game, but more of a circus for excitement with matches with friends & contests. The single player adventure mode is a challenge that does work, but can quite easily drive you down rather than lift you up overall. Still, it is a step up from the failure of the Smash Brothers game on Wii U. So get yourself revved up out of your corner & fight. Graphics: B+ Sound: B 1/2+ Control: B Fun & Enjoyment: B- for solo play; B+ for multiplayer Overall: B 1/2+

My son is the recipient of this game that he has been wanting after a session at his friend’s place. He was super happy when the delivery came in less than 2 days. The game play is good and he enjoyed it very much.
