So funny I laughed outloud on a plane
I watched this movie on a flight to Orlando and was laughing so much the guy in front asked which movie I was watching. Oops I forgot where I was the movie was that good, very soon the guy in front was laughing out loud too and giving me a thumbs up. After my trip I rented the movie so my family could see what was so funny I laughed out loud on a packed flight and very soon everyone was laughing and I was forgiven. I thought watching it a 2nd time it wouldn't be so funny but I found myself laughing even more and there were several small puns I'd missed the first time. If you are in need of a pick me up watch this film.

Venom in Vegas
Third and final movie in the Venom trilogy. Featuring the character from Spider-Man comics. You do need to have seen preceding films Venom and Venom: Let there be Carnage to get into this. Also Spider-Man no way home will help as well. This is a fifteen certificate film, with strong language and gory bits. So not for the kids. And in case anyone doesn't know by now, this isn't made by Marvel studios. So it doesn't entirely tie in with all those movies. Rights issues. Google it if you want to know.Following on from the previous films, Eddie and Venom are on the run down in Latin America. With nothing left and nowhere to go. But Eddie determines to get back home. Trouble is the military would like to get hold of him. As they've been messing around with things. And elsewhere, a very dangerous being is waiting. All good things must come to an end. Is the same going to be true of Eddie and Venom's bond?I'm not a Marvel comic reader, so I can judge these things on their own merits. Which possibly helps. I think the first Venom did take a bit to find it's tone. But I liked the second one. The mismatched squabbling buddy dynamic at the centre of it was fun. If I was a comic reader I'd be disappointed with how little they used the Carnage character. But as mentioned I'm not. Anyway...This one, when it works and focuses on that bond, is good fun in the same way. It also manages to be good in the emotions department. Playing up as it does the possibility of things coming to an end. It did make me care for the two main characters and like them, and not want that to happen. So that was a success. It does have other plots going on. With the military and also a family who get caught up in things. The latter does result in some good moments of Eddie thinking of what he could have had in life. So again, good emotion. It all does come together well with a pretty decent set piece. The actors in the military sub plot are very solid also. It's well directed. It hangs together fine. It knows what it's doing from the off.I didn't feel the non central duo parts really felt all that consequential in the end. So if I was rating that segment of the film alone, it would be a three out of five. But for the central characters, this is decent stuff. Which makes it a four. It does manage to end the story also. In the right way. Having an ending but leaving the door slightly ajar also. So that's good. Not the best comic book movie ever, but I have enjoyed the ride with these two all in all. So they made it a good watch. There are extra scenes at the start and end of the end credits. Be advised said credits are fifteen mins long so it's a bit of a wait. But since the producers of these movies - the ones not done by Marvel studios - don;t have plans for any more, I wouldn't think the end scene will result in anything. So you may or may not find it worth watching. The dvd does begin with a brief anti piracy ad. It can't be skipped but it doesn't last long.Language and subtitle options on the dvd are:Languages: English. English audio description.Subtitles: English, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Swedish.Extras:Venomous laughs: out takes and bloopers. Three mins of these. Some mildly funny. As ever with such things a bit of people just being silly. But not a bad watch.Author of mayhem: writer to director: a six min long feature on the writer director of the film. One of those things with everyone telling everyone else they're wonderful. Which I'm sure they are, but you know. It only makes for mildly interesting viewing.Venom's inner circle: six mins of quick profiles and exposition about the supporting characters and cast. An ok watch.

A superhero for Hunter S Thompson
If Hunter S Thompson had a superhero this would be he. It doesn't really follow the usual superhero paradigm like "Watchmen".Deadpool tries but comes up short, it really does make a huge difference when they use an actor of the calibre of Tom Hardy, one of the greatest actors of his generation, he made Leonardo de Caprio look like an amateur in "Revenant ". Even Ed Norton looked like he phoned it in for Hulk. Tom is the consumate professional making all his characters come to life in his cinema veritae performance.

Few goods moments, non-existent baddie. Felt like a contractual obligation movie.
Tom Hardy couldn't be faulted, the Eddie and Venom pairing was still fun to watch. As was Rhys Ifans and his family on the mini-van road trip to Area 51, they alone added a star to this review. Mrs Chen turns up, while the story is featuring in Las Vegas, she steals the show. Mrs Chen was one of the few good moments. She adds another star. Without them it would be a one star review. The movie starts off with a long winded, wordy intro about this installments villian, apparently voiced by Andy Serkis. Who sits in the darkness with his head down througout the movie, possibly to keep the CGI costs down. The villian unleashes some six legged arachnid-sort-of monsters that can travel vast distances via time-space portals. Faster than a speeding bullet, can jump tall buildings in a single bound, also jump/fly to catch a passenger jet. Supposedly indestructible, as a few specimens get shredded or blown up re-assemble themselves. But later on there is a random inexplicable twist. There's some half-baked stuff about Venom and Eddie carrying something called a CODEX, that will release the villian from his imprisonment, by Venom's species way back at the start of the universe. If either Eddie or Venom die then the CODEX is destroyed and the villian won't be able to escape. So, it makes little sense when the arachnid monsters come to earth and have leathal fights with Eddie and Venom. Making no effort to take them alive for Codex extraction. There's a secret base under Area 51, where a scientist lady who is a fraternal twin, her twin brother was killed in a childhood lightning strike. Yes, if you're reading this and find you don't care much, well neither did I. The scientist lady character wasn't developed enough. And the actor didn't bring anything to the character or movie. There was a second scientist lady who was possible a lesser role, but she contributed more. The scientists with General strickland's help have collected a few other symbiotes, and have then in their lab. The movie eludes to some greater (maybe not so noble) purpose to the science lab, but we don't find out anymore.Chiwetel Ejiofor was in it, playing a General with misdirected-anger at Eddie and Venom. I personally don't like Chiwetel, he's one of those actors that plays himself or a version of it in every movie I've seen him in. The character could have been played by any other less well known actor, and would have brought the cost of the movie down. Chiwetel probably is expensive these days.Eddie/Venom, Rhys and his family, and Mrs Chen. were the only stand out characters. Everyone else felt like a supporting/background role.At the end of the movie, the other symbiotes are released and take possession of scientists and soliders around them. We get to see some cool and colourful Symbiotes. This was one other good moment in this film. The Symbiotes help the humans in trying to defeat the arachnid-sort-of monsters, but they keep re-assembling. A few Symbiotes meet their demise at the hands....mouths of the arachnid-sort-of monsters. Then out of nowhere Venom (without Eddie's knowledge) realises that there are two massive towers of Acid on the base, which were not mentioned throughout the movie at all. Venom, alone now, gets into a tussle with the several of arachnid-sort-of monsters, ejects Eddie to safety, sort of absorbs the monsters. Then drags them and himself to towers of acid.Venom does facial expressions to a wounded Chiwetel to activate the acid bath. He does, and Venom and the monsters are dissolved in acid. Given the monsters earlier got obliterated by lots and lots of napalm and C4 but re-assembled and survived. This was a little, "huh".As the monsters (and Venom) dissolve. The villian, in his darkplace far far away somehow inexplicably knows his plan to escape has been foiled. And he screams in disappointment. Part way through the credits, as per Marvel movies, there's a clip. The villian rambles on about Venom, our protector, no longer able to protect us, and that he's going to come and get us. Well how exactly, the Codex is gone and you're trapped in the void. And you're a really poor villian, that no one cares about. In a prime video rental 48 hour period, if a movie is good I'll watch it twice. This movie isn't worth, to me, watching twice.
