Thank goodness I got this razor.
Yesterday I shaved for the first time with a double-edged safety razor. I was worried I might accidentally cut myself, but I did everything slowly and patiently. I was also worried this razor would be more aggressive than publicized but it's great for beginners just like me. The plate bends the blade very well and the butterfly system holds it tight quite nicely, the blade doesn't move at all. I should mention I used an Astra blade instead of the Rockwell ones included with this razor... I've seen many people complain that the Rockwell blades are not very good. But I will try them and update my review for the sake of reviewing the entire product. Also, some reviews state that the razor is not very heavy, and that might be true compared to other safety razors, but if you're transitioning from cartridge razors you will definitely feel the weight of the razor when you shave. It was definitely a very smooth shave and an improvement on post-shave irritation and razor burn that cartridge razors usually leave. Overall I'd say, If you're a beginner go for this razor with the certainty it will do the job. It easily shaved my 7-day facial hair growth with one pass. Be patient and slow the first times and don't apply any pressure, the weight of the razor is just enough. UPDATE - ON THE ROCKWELL RAZORS So yeah... the complaints are justified. After using Astra blades I could feel the Rockwell blades did more of a pulling action than shaving. Keep in mind I shaved a 7 day stubble easily with an Astra, but the Rockwell tugged a two day stubble. Not a smooth shave. I will keep the rating five stars, though. I bought this product for the razor, not the blades.

Can't go wrong with it.
I've had this razor for years. It's superb quality and easy to use, easy to clean. The polished metal look hasn't faded away yet and the razors are easily replaceable.

Soft and clean
It was my first time using a safety razor after the hype of people saying how good they are, I can say they are ten times better than your 3-5 blade razors. This razor is super sharp, it got rid of my hairs after just one go. I feel like I can shave a lot better and faster than regular plastic ones. I used to use razors like Venus or any branded razor that already has gel required. It would take me 2 - 3 strokes to shave my legs and arms and for this razor I would have to shave ONCE. If your a first time user I recommend doing your research on how to use these things since a few people did have a few cuts from it. It will require a lot of patience and use this razor with soft strokes or you'll end up with razor burns and cuts. I did accidentally cut myself a two times but thats just me being clumsy. And make sure to do your best with after care.

Nice close, smooth shave
Nice close shave. No cuts or nicks. The only problem tightening blade with handle was very stiff in turning handle. I had to apply light machine oil to loosen handle for turning. It should loosen up in time and use. This shouldn't have been a problem with a high end shaving instrument.

Just why?
I just don’t like it.. the weight is off, and knurling feels super fake..? For the price point sure maybe this is a good ultra basic super starter learner razor..? But should this product even exist to represent this brand? I don’t think so.

Best safety razor under 25$. plating great. medium agression
I own the Rockwell 6s,6c, Merkur Futr, Merkur 34c &34g, Merkur Progress(short handle), Edwin Jagger de89&87, Muhle R89 Twist, Dovo Primo 2. I bought the Rockwell R1 and was pleasantly surprised that it is a medium aggressive razor with a smooth plated finish and a handle with good grip. The R1 build quality is above average but not wonderful. I could not ask for more for 25$ as it is a terrific deal. The included Rockwell blades are too sharp for me and i dislike them. Use Persona USA blades or Astra blades. If you have 40$ then buy the Rockwell 2c instead. Gunmetal plating is my favorite attribute of Rockwell razors as it looks cool. Rockwell safety razors are all good and that is what I have learned.

Well Built --Too Mild for Me
Decided to return after my first shave I tested a few blades persona platinum and the Rockwell's it came with. It's far too mild for me, the blade gap is negligible requiring multiple passes for a smooth shave however, the build construction does feel sturdier than my Van Der Hagen decided to try the 6c hoping for a more aggressive shave.

Very good razor. I was skeptical at first, but took a leap of faith. Razor is solid. Feels very good on hand. Build is premium. Got a very close, slick shave out of it.

I have tried 3 different brands of Safety Razor this one is the best! Beautiful, classic and functional design. Has a quality feel in your hand. Easy and secure way to load and unload the blade. Have not had any issues with the nob becoming loose while shaving. What I have learned - like many the thought of a safety razor was terrifying but in fact it’s less deadly than a fancy 5 blade razor! I have tried using in the shower but because of back pain it wasn’t a great experience. Sitting on the side of the tub I found I wasn’t able to comfortably get a good shave. So in the bath worked best for me. Slow down! It will take a bit longer than the razors we are use to get yourself all prettied up! First of all - get to know your work surface. My knees have little dimples that I have to be mindful of or I’ll end up with tiny cuts. Keep the skin very wet and a little sudsy. Don’t press hard, short strokes are key. Finding the right angle to shave is kinda like knowing how much pressure to put on the fuel petal to get to the speed limit. It will come with time. Conclusion - this is a great buy!! The razor is simple and functional. Has a good weight, the design makes it easy to hold and not slippery. I have tried different blades but found the Rockwells to be the best for my skin and fur needs. At the price I use a blade per shave. If I’m going to spend 20 minutes or so shaving I wanted it to be as smooth and close as possible. Give this razor a try!! It cost less than 3 fancy coffee drinks and will last you a lifetime. Heck you can leave it to your grandkids in the will.

I was suprised how short the handle is, to the point where it is almost too small to hold - about half the size if a gillette razor - it really is tinny tiny, like it’s been shrunk
