- Magnetic Tiles Roads Creative Pack, 48 Pieces

$ yr old loved these to build roads that wind through buildings created with other tiles. Glad I got the larger set as the build possibilities are greater.

Excellent quality tiles. Lots of different shapes. The all black colour gives more flexibility to make many more structures. They are for a 3 yr old who knows roads are black but i dont believe will miss the middle white lines found in other tile road sets.

If you're already familiar with the Connetix brand of toys, this is possibly a nice expansion pack for you. If you've never heard of Connetix, this is not likely where you're going to start. This set is great if you already have some vehicles and perhaps a starter kit that includes some colorful designs. This is confined to pieces that create a roadway, and a bridge. It is all black in color, and does have the very high quality construction that this line is known for. No question, it is expensive, but it's also an extremely versatile toy and is designed to work as part of a broader range of kits that have endless creativity possibilities. The magnets are incredibly durable, as are the two-sided pieces which really would take a miracle to break. (Think along the same lines as the Thomas the Tank Engine sets, which easily handed down from kid to kid.). This toy is more of an investment. I can recommend it for its quality, though I wish it was more reasonable and price. Still, if you're already well invested in this line of construction toys, this is a good addition.

Useless crap

This is not a starter set of CONNETIX Magnetic Tiles, it is a valuable “add on” set to the CONNETIX Magnetic Tiles world which has other sets for buildings and other creations. Similar in a way to other educational building sets, but with different material. This set is the Roads Creative Pack of 48 pieces, and it is aimed aimed at road and ramp construction, but with some imagination bridges, ramps, and some buildings and walls can be built. The accompanying CONNETIX Roads Inspiration book gives examples and suggestions for creative play. The CONNETIX Magnetic Tiles Roads Creative Pack has 48 pieces of different shapes, comprising Intersections, Ramps, Turns, Small Squares & Rectangles of different sizes, and Quarter Circles. All pieces are coloured black to simulate road construction. All pieces are very sturdy in construction, and the surrounding edges of each piece contain small magnets which allow the pieces to magnetically connect with the edges of any other piece, regardless of orientation or shape. This helps to stimulate the imagination and enhances play. It should be noted that the magnets, while effective, do not have the holding force of other tabbed or plug-in sets, but can provide elevation of ramps or walls due to their magnetic edges. With regard to safety, all of the tile pieces are constructed with a bevelled design for strength, and ultrasonically sealed and riveted for safety. Keeping in mind that this Roads Creative Pack is an expansion kit, It will integrate better with other CONNETIX kits or similar magnetic kits That said, however, I found that our 10 year old put it to very creative uses, and engaged the interest of our 3 year old for long periods of play. The kit was used initially to make roads, and a variety of wheeled toys were used. Ramps and some walls eventually resulted, and the play continues…..An interesting sturdy set that engages the imagination.

I'm a HUGE fan of magnet tiles, specifically the Connetix brand, but these aren't my favourite. They're a little cumbersome to use, and it seems you have to hold your mouth just so to get the raised road pieces to connect to each other properly. I love that these are "road" coloured, which makes it real-world appropriate, and I love all the shapes and designs that come in this box, allowing for a variety of road patterns to be built, but it might be easier for kids to use the regular Connetix tiles and make a rainbow road! I was getting frustrated building the raised portions, and having the support properly aligned, so some kids may get super angry, which may result in them not wanting to play with this toy often. Our 5.5 year old daughter doesn't reach for the road tiles in her collection of Connetix, so that says something. I'd absolutely invest your money in a different set of Connetix tiles before this set.
