not better than the 3dsxl...just different...definatley not worse though.
ok had a 3dsxl before buying this but wanted to play the Gameboy advance games(have pokemon ruby right now) and am visually impared so can't figure out the Nintendo store(you can download some pokemon games on there like red, blue etc). I also wanted to trade with myself and considering I'll mainly use it for this purpose and a brand new 3dsxl is worth £150 on here and this costs under £20 if you want a 2nd ds for that purpose this is a good buy. Also important to note is that before buying this wanted a ds with a gba slot but infa red capability(due to my sight can't set up wifi, and infa red requires no set up at all, it's ready straight from the get go) and can comfirm this has both and is the latest model with a gba slot, again if you want a ds that has it all except 3d functionality(and it can play 3d games) this is a very good buy and again £130 less than a 3dsxl. Mine also came with a case, a deal or no game and charger, aswell as stylus and fake/model game cartridges, so good to read full seller descriptions as I read every one of them to get a good deal. It is also considerabley smaller than the 3dsxl and infact I wouldn't really call the 3dsxl portable, it feels much heavier and larger in comparison and due to it's price again the ds light is easillyish replaceable so better for taking out and about, although as I said mine came with a case. One bad thing(kinda) about the ds light is the screen and sound quality is noticeably worse(and I'm visually impared) it's not bad by any standards, you do need to be aware however you will notice a difference. The only other difference is that the 3dsxl has a joystick like on a console controller, don't use it myself, and is very well built, unintrusive on the 3dsxl so not really an issue for me. As for battery life haven't had the ds light long enough to test this properly but seems pretty comparible to the 3dsxl and that's a good thing considering how the 3dsxl's battery is. Can't notice any difference in build quality, got the black ds light and looks amazing. One last thing is that the ds light is probably more user friendly, don't know if I'm doing it wrong but on my 3dsxl have to hold the power button for a certain time then press a button on the touch screen to turn it off, where as on the ds light you just slide a slider similar to the volume control. Also haven't downloaded any updates for either console(obviously) but on my standard version just have to press a a load of times to play the game, where as the 3dsxl has loads of options, such as for the camera and microphone. In summary if you want a more portable, smaller, much, much cheaper ds with no bells and whistles, that is more user friendly get this ds light. More suitable for children or elder people due to it's user friendliness, also more suitable for children due to it's price. However if yu want a ds with a better quality screen(and a fair bit larger too) and sound, with more features and want to get the most out of 3d games get the 3dsxl. However personally I'd recommend getting both as they're both better at different things and love loads of gba games.

Perfect
Practically brand new the only thing wrong is the slight fade in the left corners of the top screen but already knew that before buying, easy fix, plays games as intended. I wanted this mainly to be able to play gba games in the future (once i can find some for cheap) and pokemon. It brings me back to my childhood, i had the ds i when i was 5 but its practically the same just with no camera. If ur ordering a ds in 2025 just make sure the seller has pictures of it.

Great console, shame about the games.
As the title states, this console is great. The games that we first got for it were 'Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training' and 'Super Mario Bros.'. The first game is fantastic, well designed and still has us playing three months on. The second is also great, I love the 'old-fashioned' platform style games, looking sideways at the character rather than 3D. These two games really utilise the DS Lite's physical capabilities. Just imagine how far technology has come so that you can play games that use sensory touch, that hear you when you speak, and in the case of the Mario game, it can even sense your breath in order to make characters move in certain sideline games - amazing! The design of the DS Lite is sleek and compact. I have to say that playing a game such as Mario, where dexterity of the digits is important, the DS Lite does make things feel a little awkward, but it's not much to complain about. So, this is where the main problem lies - so far these two games that we bought with it seem to be the only ones worth having. As I completed the Mario game some time ago, and we were left just playing the Brain Training game, I joined a game rental company for a little while to try to find some other titles that we could get for it. I rented games that had been recommended to me, but I'm struggling to see why. The games rented were 'Phoenix Wright', 'Trauma Centre: Under The Knife', 'Another Code', 'Electroplankton', 'Madagascar', 'Big Brain Academy', 'Ice Age', 'Tetris', 'Ultimate Spiderman', 'Yoshi Touch And Go', 'Mario vs. Luigi' and 'Sonic Rush'. We didn't enjoy any of these titles. Many of them spend so much time making you read huge amounts of writing that are repeated every time you start the game, it's more like reading a badly written graphic novel. Some of the games were very boring, others just seemed so poorly designed I wonder how Nintendo can justify their release. It's such a shame, and that's heartfelt, because this console had me in raptures for weeks, singing its praise to all who came near! The scope for a machine like this is huge, but it hasn't been taken advantage of. I know there are a lot of people who love the games I rented, but I'm not one of them. I only hope that better games will follow as I don't know the console's lifetime with only two games.

Great Console
I really enjoy the fact that this game console can play Both the Game Boy Advanced games along with the new DS games. I bought this when my gameboy advanced sp stopped charging correctly so that I could still play my games from that era of gaming and play some newer games as well. I did buy this Used. So there were obviously a few things that weren't perfect. They could have at least wiped some of the dirt off of it before sending! But that was a easy wipe down to fix. I was also really surprised that it was packaged in an old shoe box..... But nothing was damaged through the post, so all is well there. The stylus won't stay in the slot for it, it just keeps sliding out. And the screen protectors were a little larger than the actual screen itself, so bubbles happen quite often and for someone who's slightly ocd about bubbles under the screen protectors it's a little annoying. These few little things (I say little because they don't have any effect on the actual playing of the system) along with the weak hinging (creaky - sounds like it could come apart if dropped at all) on the console are the reason I took a star away. These are only minor issues that come along with buying any used system. Overall the console came in pretty good condition and plays well. Good deal for the price.
