Always good to have an HDMI to DisplayPort cable around for those times when I am needing to plug in a DisplayPort monitor to a Mac mini - Mac mini only supports HDMI and has no DP so this is perfect for those situations.

I took this cable to connect my RaspberryPi to DP monitor. However, it’s not that simple. I also wanted to reuse this monitor for other devices by using HDMI KVM and with a simple press of a button I can choose the source signal. Product description was very clear and warned buyers about one-directional properties of this cable as well as inability to function through hubs so I thought it’s not going to work with KVM either.Well, TL; DR: I have good news, my tests passed with flying colors.Now, let’s jump into the details. This is how I’ve tested it:TEST 1: standard RPI mini-HDMI to HDMI cable connected to RPI output. Then I’m using an HDMI coupler female-2-female to concatenate with this/Answin cable, and other end (DP), obviously connected directly to the monitor running on resolution 1920x1200. Small USB cable, to ensure power to the HDMI part of the connector, was plugged in a USB socket / 2 Amps. Total success - worked like a charm.TEST 2: Same setup as above, but without power USB cable. Success, for this setup, external power was not needed, no degradation in signal. I’m not sure, perhaps extra power is needed for higher resolutions.TEST 3: RPI HDMI cable is connected to HDMI KVM, and Answin cable is connected to KVM output. Again, a total success, it passed through KVM without any problems.During testing I noticed that the HDMI end (where there is a chip and power connector) gets mildly warm but nothing concerning.Conclusion: This is great high-quality cable with very well crafted braided wire and connectors which are easy to plug in/out devices. Price is a little bit on the high end but it is a special case cable that can do the opposite of what we typically see (DP→HDMI), therefore it can convert HDMI to DP. No concerns from my end.Final verdict: 5 stars
