Solid little translator - Works without cell service or WIFI
I’ve seen several negative reviews claiming this product doesn’t work without cell service; it does. It supports offline translation for 11 languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Arabic, Japanese, and Russian. You just need to download the languages to your phone through the app.I tested the translator with an iPhone 13 and a Samsung S22 Ultra (in airplane mode and WIFI off). They worked well for the two languages I tried: English to Spanish and Korean, and vice versa. You need to speak slowly, or it will miss some of the message. It’s convenient to see the text on the phone to ensure your intended message is accurate. This device is handy for traveling or interacting for non-critical communications. Given its weight and size, you can easily toss it in your pocket. Is it absolutely perfect? No, you need to set your expectations, especially at this cost; it’s not hundreds of dollars. For the price, it’s a nice basic device that can be very useful.

Great find!
This translator works great! It is very easy to install and get started. I volunteer at a Crisis Pregnancy Center and a lot of the clients are hispanic, this is coming in very handy! It is very easy for me to speak into and also for them to speak into. I am very pleased with the variety of languages and the ease of use.

Uses your smart phone to do what your phone can already do.
There were no reviews when I ordered this Peiko language translation device, and having found Google Translate extensively during my recent trip to Italy, I was intrigued at what benefits this might offer. The device mostly works, though it has some flaws, including sometimes cutting off its own speech as well as having the ability to repeat what it just said with dictating the same sentence again (which should be a no-brainer). I spent a while trying to figure out how this device is any better than utilizing your phone with Google Translate. In fact, this device requires a bluetooth connection to your smart phone, and requires the Google Translate app to operate. This translation device works fine after a little practice, but the microphone and speaker are of lower quality than my Google Pixel 7. And when you use Google Translate alone on your phone, you get to see a written version of your own verbage as well as the translation, which can be helpful. So it appears this device is completely redundant but with lower quality. It's like carrying around an AM radio in your car that already has a stereo system. So I've tried to stretch my imagination to deduce what benefit this device might have. I figured maybe this device would work offline, as I noticed you can ask it to download languages (to your phone's memory) but I found out that Google Translate alone on your phone works in airplane mode. The only tiny benefit I can imagine is that this translation device is smaller than a smart phone (1 1/4"x 4 1/2"), so might be less intimidating to ask a foreign stranger to speak into it. Admittedly, I haven't tried the group chat feature, but there are a number of apps including some free versions that can do that without having a separate device. Have I missed something?? After reading the entire short instruction manual I don't think so.

Expectations
It works well if it is a one on one conversation. Even then you have to go one sentence at at time.

This is a unique device. I’ve downloaded the app that goes with the device and it picks up on conversation and gives me the complete translation in the app. So now I don’t have to do all this typing like with Google translate. It is a great assistance as I manager a community that is mostly Hispanic with a few Portuguese and it helps me understand to better communicate.
