TimexTimex Men's Waterbury Traditional
M**W
A heritage watch from Timex
This watch is a nod to Timex's history, back in 1850's the Waterbury Clock Company was set up in the city of Waterbury Connecticut & in the 1890's they introduced the 'dollar watch' making personal timekeeping more affordable. So about the watch? It has a legacy look perhaps like something from the 1950's. Of course it's a quartz, so far more accurate & reliable than a clockwork mechanism. The case is brass with a chrome finish which is durable and looks good. The upper case surrounding the dial has the ridged effect, which has a 1950's look, I like that. The dial is nicely presented with apparently applied indices. The top right subdial shows the hours & is marked in 2 hour intervals. The chronograph's lower subdial marks the seconds & the top left subdial marks the minutes but only up to 30 minutes. The chronograph pushers aren't great as they are not smooth to operate and are quite resistant, but they do work. The lume on the dial & the hour & minute hands is frankly pants. There is no backlight Indiglo either which is a shame. The second hand is elegantly finished with the 'W' Waterbury logo, I like that, it adds a touch of class. The date dial is slightly larger than usual which is easier to read! Thankfully there is mineral glass rather than acrylic, the glass is a bit too reflective though. I do like the oversized ridged crown which is easy to use & smooth to operate. The case back is stainless steel & is nicely presented with the Timex logo, world globe, it references the Waterbury collection & 1854 legacy. The case back is not screwed down so the water resistance is limited to 50m.The black strap is real leather & smells like leather too! At first it's a little stiff, but soon becomes more pliable. I like that it comes with quick release pins. The lug width is 20mm which is a good size for after market straps. Some watch manufacturers including Timex make watches with ridiculous 19mm lug widths! The case width is 38mm not including crown or pushers. Lug to lug is 48mm, the lugs curve down which makes for a nice fit. The watch & strap fit comfortably on the wrist. The watch is nicely proportioned. Despite the few minor negative points mentioned I really like this watch. It looks good & I like the slightly old fashioned heritage look. This is my go to weekend watch & I love it!
