Germany 04218 Airbus A380 Model Kit

Great Model. Very Detailed!. I Cant wait to build it.. . This Model is very Hard to Find but I got it and I am going to build it this summer. Seller was just excellent - Very accurrate and careful with Packaging. Model arrived in Prime condition . Now it just sit and waits for me to Build it- . Thanks for the smile

This is an impressive kit, and I look forward to the challenge of building it. If you're considering this one, keep in mind that it's over 19" long with a wingspan of 22.5", so make sure you have the space to display it when it's done. Highly recommended for aviation buffs.

This is Revell's original A380 model kit from 2002. It was released before the first prototype was unveiled, but the kit was then updated. The last cockpit window on each side is not correct, and has to be partially painted over to make it more triangular. Once again, I "hand painted" the decals for this project, instead of using the prototype decals from the kit. Many of the existing decals could still be used however. On one side, the classic "tulip" logo style of United Airlines was painted, on the other side classic Delta Air Lines colors were used (of course neither airline operates the A380, so this is strictly a "what if" design concept). Two dollars worth of cellophane tape was used to mark off the areas to be painted, including the edge of the lettering. This was done first, before assembly even started, and was actually the easiest part. Non-toxic craft store paint was brushed on, no airbrush being used. At the very end a layer of clear enamel was sprayed on from a can (this was done outside). With this method you can't get a smooth gleaming finish though. The paint is somewhat uneven and smudged, but some areas can be sanded smooth without scraping it off. Panel lines and wing flaps were highlighted by pencil. The registration code was made up. The decals, especially around the windows, were professional grade but very flimsy and fragile. That makes them difficult to apply for amateur or casual modelers. The spiral decals for the spinners were particularly useless, and could not be applied. A hand painted spiral was painted on one engine hub, but that took twenty minutes. The landing gear was also a bit challenging. Some of the doors were left in the half open position, but in reality they close around the gear after it has deployed. As with Revell's 787 kit, the somewhat flimsy main fuselage seam came apart toward the end, but it could be glued back together and sanded smooth, leaving almost no trace of the damage.

I wanted to build this model as I’m a big fan of aviation and model building. This kit is usually quite hard to find but Amazon recently put it it back on there website so I thought I’d buy it. Upon receiving the package I noticed that the kit wasn’t what I had thought. The instructions were convoluted and didn’t explain how the parts were supposed to fit and work. The actual parts were small and made of the cheapest possible plastic money can buy. The whole process of gluing on the parts was a mess and took nearly 24 hours to do in the shabbiest way. The worst part of this entire model kit was the STICKERS. You are supposed to dip the stickers in water and then peel them off and apply them to the aircraft. This is possibly the worst way of using stickers and I had to throw almost 50% of them away as they were folding in on themselves and tearing quite easily. I wouldn’t recommend this kit at all and I would be happy knowing that this item was taken off Amazon as a whole :)

this item very poor quality. it has poor plastic, very very small parts of the kit. with summary: terrible, disappointment.

This was a birthday present for my son who likes to make models of stuff although in a much easier way. He and his friend tried it but then gave up because they had no clue on how to do it. The instructions weren’t that clear. You also need modeling glue and some other sharp materials. The Airplane is still cool and we have been fascinated to know that the “Airbus A380-800” is the largest passenger plane. Overall the model is good and it is difficult. Definitely not recommended for kids. Only for adults or kids with the help of an adult/s. Thanks “Revell”! Germans are great engineers!!
