The foam pads are nice for fitting your own tools in drawers or cases. once the foam expanded from the vaccum packaging it is 1.75 inches thick and 12x12 inches square. the smaller perforated squares are great for quickly making shapes for whatever tool you have. The shape cut-outs are not perfectly matched to you tools as the squares pull out as complete squares and leave stepped edge if you want an angled line on your shape. the foam is stiff enough to be cut with a razor knife to get a more clean look to your shapes. The thin pieces of foam for under the thick cut-out piece could be a little more stiff, tools easily compress the foam and there isn't much protections from the hard surface of your case or drawer bottom
