'Madmen' is a textbook for international reporting
Not only is a Little Bunch of Madmen: Elements of Global Reporting a great read, it could be considered a textbook for the basics of international journalism. Mort Rosenblum uses his considerable writing skills to the utmost to convey what it means to go out into the world and relate firsthand experience with the individuals and events which daily affect millions of lives. He drives home the crucial point that it is not the pundits sitting back and observing from afar who should be trusted to reflect the realities behind current affairs. Instead, it is those rare individuals -- the madmen of the title -- who plunge into the fray, often at great personal risk, to reveal the underlying, objective truths that help us to understand what is really going on. Sadly, the trend in media communications in recent years has veered drastically away from the practices prescribed by Rosenblum. It's not too late to heed his experience and his advice.

Indispensable for understanding modern journalism
The legendary reporter, author, journalism professor, and all-around bon vivant, Mort Rosenblum, has just created the first indispensable book to help us understand the ins and outs, ups and downs, truths and falsehoods of modern journalism. I love this book, "Little Bunch of Madmen: Elements of Global Reporting," because it is not only the single most illuminating book I've read about the transmogrification of today's octopus-armed media, but it's also chock-full of tips for aspiring young journalists, and a treasure trove of tips for readers and listeners. As time goes by, we're going to need more and more clarity to see through all the mud-slinging that passes for stories today. To get there will take some courage, but I feel stronger already having read it and I think other readers will too. Reading it, I kept thinking of H. G. Wells' famous line, "History is a race between education and catastrophe." With "Little Bunch of Madmen," we have a far better chance to stay in the race.-- Phil Cousineau, San Francisco

Entertaining - a non-textbook textbook
Entertaining - a non-textbook textbook that I am using in my class, International Reporting (JRN 615) at National University. We are reviewing the articles he reprinted, as well as his practical tips.

News that matters
This sharp, readable book is not only a great instruction manual for aspiring journalists, particularly foreign correspondents. Even more important, it shows the general reader just how dangerously inadequate and distorted much of current media reporting has become, at a time when globalization makes a clear grasp of world events more vital than ever.

Entertaining, informative and highly readable.
This memoir draws on decades of experience and a real insider knowledge of foreign reporting. Essential reading for aspiring journalists, and a fun read as well.

another decent read
Mort has written a decent story here with message although it is more of a write up a lecture set of notes. a set of lectures I would have sat in on.Its not the same as his book on the life and love of the olive or his time in France.its the story of news reportage from the front by the people who do it or used to when news organisations had big foreign bureau's spread out over the world. Men and Women writers and photographers who earned their spurs the hard way.Mort's lament seems to be this school apprenticeship has gone the way of linotype and hot metal and replaced by central news depots presenting news Do these 'eye friendly' presenters stitching iPhone photo's, video's,' leaks' and twitter feeds together form complementary information to current news or make a substitute for it altogether?Perhaps Mort is asking does the alternative sources of the news information formats we now see have the same provenance as the traditional ways. The book is a soft paperback in a simply published style not a traditional library book. The message is serious though.I generally like the Rosenblum books so I am biased but this is a step into the serious side of his life not the story writer and I believe he is giving a warning to be wary how to interpret the presentation of the and 'infor-media' technology.Journalists earned their trade the hard way to deliver that news to the editors office , don't lose that source of 'truth'.

So gehts
