Great Book to help you to get to know your new camera.
Really enjoyed David's book on the Sony a99ii. It has helped me get to know my camera better along with explaining more than the Owners Manual that Sony wants to supply with the camera. My cover has the Sony a99ii photo on it. This is the proofread printing hardcopy book.

No Index ! (additional follow-up)
No Index ? This is quite possibly a fatal flaw. Still, I purchased a copy (Sony A99ii Fast Track); a $40 risk. It'll be my 3rd "Bush Guide", and I've really appreciated their value. But... I use these books (still) as a references. And a reference without an index ? I'm prepared for buyers remorse. I expect to end up using free Internet resources instead. I'm writing this prior to receiving the book (July '19). Soon, I'll measure its value, and I'll re-edit or confirm this review with an update, probably in about 2-3 weeks. I read the description stating that an index would increase the price $10/book. With a 30-year background in publishing - admittedly, not in production - I find this claim to be not credible, unless the sales are anticipated to be very small. Finally, self publishing is typically a big negative for a technical reference. Has Bush sacrificed reputation for profit ? We'll see.August 2019 (additional comments) Ok, I've been using the Busch's A99ii guide, sans index, for a while now. No index is not a fatal flaw. It is a negative, and it absence does require more effort and patience. Fortunately the A99ii is pretty similar to the A77ii, and I've become familiar with that model. If this was a true 1st-time introduction to these cameras I think I'd be more irritated. When I do need to search for A99 info it takes several steps - read here / read there. But the au does make comments in the text that helps ("further discussion available in Chapter ....") And honestly, the earlier books' indices weren't all that great. So,.....I guess I do recommend this guide, and I'm giving it another star. Perhaps reluctantly so.

Great book for an "orphan" camera!
Explicitly explains all camera functions. This book has many illustrations that clearly show the name of all the buttons, dials and whistles! Thanks David.

Is this a Sony or a Canon
A index would have been nice, I don't like having to read the contents when I want to look up one item. Also, my book came with a pictures of a Canon camera on the cover. Poor quality control. Information is OK.

Not David's best work
I have been a fan of David Busch's camera guides for many years; however, this is the first time I have been totally frustrated with one. First of all, it is printed on cheap paper, which renders the images so poorly that trying to see difference in many image comparison sequences is hard to comprehend, and appears to be a print-on-demand book. The first three pages were loose, the spine warped. However, that was not much of a concern. The biggest major issue is a lack of an index, which prevented me from cross referencing topics as I tried to go through the guide. A glossary would also have been extremely useful, but that, too, is not included. In Chapter 2, page 57, when learning about the controls, the C button is pointed out, but there is no discussion of its use anywhere in the following explanations of this control. I flipped to the back of the book to find the link in the index; there isn't one. Not until am further into the book do I find out what the button is capable of. Granted, I had a good idea, but not explaining usage—or where in the book to find the data after pointing it out in the familiarization section, was frustrating. There are myriad typos, missing words in a sentence, and at least one incorrect caption (page 328, where the image caption states to "lock in" a wide aperture (denoted by a large f/number (F/22?)) when you want to blur the background. Editing would have corrected to state a small f/number (f/2.8 or so). There are so many places that make the reader stop and reevaluate what he or she has read. Case in point, page 369, where the discussion of using a histogram to adjust exposure, the discussion is about the Sony A6500, and not the A99II the book is about, which made me go online to research what differences are between the two camera's sensors (both CMOS, but not the same size). It appears there was some healthy cut-and-paste action from previous work throughout the book, and the lack of editing to clean up many typos and errors is very distracting. There is still lots of useful information here, and I am trying to work my way through it to find all the difference between the a99II and my other Sony DSLRs. My main reason for buying this camera was that I have several old Minolta G professional lenses I love, and wanted a professional digital camera to use them on.The bottom line in my opinion is this guide is not up to David's normally excellent work. It's obvious a self-published book, but it certainly needed some heavy editing by a third party, and the lack of an index is the most glaring omission. I own several of his other guides for my Canon and Sony cameras, all very good that were published by Course Technology; this is not in the same category, and it pains me to say so. As one who has made his living for the last 30 years as a photographer and editor, I found this book to be frustrating and distracting to read.
