Economical thermal camera for your phone
The Topdon TS001 is a thermal camera that plugs into the USB-C port on your phone. It also comes with an extension cable that allows you to move it about two feet away from your phone, and also a clamp to mount it to the back of the phone. There is a USB-A adapter on the cable and a Windows app to also allow the camera to be used with a laptop. Setup was simple, just download the app and plug the camera into the phone. I had some minor issues with the app initially and contacted tech support. They responded quickly and provided some good troubleshooting steps, then determined an update to the app was needed. Once I downloaded and installed the app it worked great. The camera displays color-gradiented video on the phone and the color corresponds to temperature. The color palette can be selected for different preference or to overcome visual color recognition issues. The camera has several settings to determine where numerical temperature settings will be taken. In the photos I used the line setting, the user draws a line on the screen and the camera measures along that line. Spot, square, area, and full screen modes are also available. I found this camera easy to use and surprisingly capable for the affordable cost. It's great for finding hot spots in walls, hot spots on car engines, measuring temperature of electronics, and a lot of other applications. I recommend it.

Excellent thermal camera used for short or long distance
This little compact thermal cam is really handy to have. I have used in multiple applications so far since I have had it. I used the camera to find all the spots in my mother in laws house for draft areas around doors and windows. Worked very well and helped save me some time doing it the old way. I also used this guy to look into my field at night for animals and was surprised how far I could see out. It captures images, has a ton of customization tools, and is compact so I through it in my laptop bag or my glove box. Hooks up to the laptop or your android based tablet or phone. Download the app and go to town that simple. I didn’t realize how much I would use this but it’s been super helpful. It’s made well and seems like it will last. It’s easy to install you literally slap it on your phone and download and app.

Not bad
I seriously think this one is one of the better ones for the price... It's helped me locate coyotes and peeping toms on my property. It takes a little getting used to, and there's a slight zoom on the lense which I like, but I need to still get used to regarding depth perception... but overall- good camera

Great quality distant thermal camera!
This thermal is awesome. My favorite part, is the dual function cord and adjustable phone mount that allows you to attach the camera to the phone. Makes it possible to keep your phone case on and not have to plug the camera directly into the bottom of the phone. The image quality is top notch for this cost level of thermal. Using it super close up(less than 2-4ft) gets a tad blurry, as this thermal is designed for distance reading. The deer in the video was roughly 150ft from me, in complete darkness, and still had a great image. I'm thoroughly impressed with the real time readings and different thermal time selections. This camera will not disappoint.

TS001 - For the average non-professional, affordable and decent quality.
For the average non-professional, affordable and decent quality. If you use this kind of equipment professionally or for more than an hour or two per day, get something higher quality. Also, great customer service, very responsive. Thanks Alison B.! For reference, I have a 4,855 mAh battery on an older Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra with conservative battery-use settings (very few notifications, dark screen, limited background applications running, etc.). Camera Dimensions (not including mounting bracket): ~ 2-3/4" wide x 1-1/4" deep (including lens) x 1-3/8" tall (not including USB-C male end). Pros: - The functionality and ease of use will probably be good enough for most homeowners/non-professionals to evaluate their home heating loss or other hobbyist uses. - Very affordable for an infrared camera phone attachment. - Comes with camera, case, mounting bracket, cord (USB-C female end and both USB-A 3.0 and USB-C male ends), lens cloth, rubber lens cover with string lanyard, and instruction manual. - The case is a quality, zippered, hard-sided case with custom-formed foam insert and netting to hold the camera, the bracket, the cord, a lens cloth and the instructions. Has an approximately 5" long carrying loop. Case dimensions are approximately 5.5" x 4.5" x 2.5". - The cord comes with a USB-A 3.0 optional male end so it can be plugged into a computer. I have not tried using this feature, so I cannot comment on it further. - Very lightweight. Mixed: - Quality of image and details can vary depending on the situation. Some instances seem highly detailed while others not so much. This could be dependent on the min/max temperature within the viewing area, which is not adjustable due to constant auto-calibration. - Using the direct connection to the USB-C port option isn't the most solid/secure, but it can't really be any better due to the inherent design of USB-C ports; however, it comes with an adjustable mounting bracket and cord so you can alternately mount it to the back of your phone and use the cord to plug it in to your USB-C port. The bracket is very solid/secure. The cord is ~24" long (not including male end of USB-C plug or USB-A 3.0 adapter). - Advertised Minimum Temperature is only -4 deg F, which makes it somewhat less useful for use in colder climates and other applications requiring lower minimum temperatures. - Advertised Maximum Temperature is 1,022 deg F, which makes it less useful for automotive applications, especially for exhaust/emissions systems analyses which would need an effective maximum temperature ideally closer to 2,400 deg F (for a catalytic converter operating abnormally) with a minimum max temperature of 1,200 to 1,600 deg F (for a normally functioning catalytic converter and/or other exhaust system components). Cons: - My experience did not live up to the advertised power consumption specs, which would not be good for professional use or long continued use. - Many instances of the advertised language appear to be incorrect, misleading, or potentially illegal: 1. Says cord is 19.7" long, but it's more like ~24" long. 2. Says 4-7 hours of use with a 3,000-5,000 mAh battery. It appeared to use battery fast enough that my phone got very warm, and I highly doubt it would last 2 hours of use, which would also make video recording and the report generation features less useful. This also means its advertised 0.35W power consumption is likely incorrect. 3. Says it comes with a "phone stand," but there is nothing that holds your phone. There is a bracket that mounts to your phone to hold the camera, but it won't help your phone stand up. 4. Says it is "Ideal for hunting," which is highly illegal in many U.S. states, and likely other places as well. Many U.S. states even prohibit the use of infrared cameras for viewing or scouting wildlife. - The more you move it around, the more it needs to keep recalibrating the temperature scale. This is relatively standard across the industry for this type of device, but it's probably not the smoothest or fastest. Keep a steady hand in areas that are important. Move slowly when taking video. - Can't compare color scales between two different pictures due to constant auto-recalibration. - Instruction manual only really shows you how to download the app and plug in the device. Detailed user manual only accessible by QR code (not as handy to have). Doesn't show how to use mounting bracket, though it isn't very difficult. Not Evaluated: - I have not tried using the USB-A 3.0 plug for computer use. - I have not used any of the report generation or data export features.

Incredibly high spatial resolution!!
This thermal camera gives the best spatial resolution, all due to its focus adjustable, small field of view camera. The high fps is also very useful. I find it very useful for circuit debugging. Check out the video of a PCB being powered on. The 4 holes at the center left of the video has a pitch of 50mil (0.05 inch). The components on the PCB are mostly 0402/0603 sized. The transistors light up very quickly as soon as the board is powered on. This spatial resolution easily blows any other thermal camera on the market out of the water, expensive FLIR cameras included. My only complain is that the software is buggy (currently at V0.69 on windows) and easy to crash.

Great thermal camera for your android
This thermal camera has been nothing short of great. Once you have the app installed the camera will auto load the app whenever you plug it in making it quicker and easier then finding the app. It has a bigger zoom then the previous model without the focusing lens, but allows you to focus the camera easier with the adjustable aperture. It has helped in the automotive field with heated seat grid, heated steering wheels, also diagnosing brakes to see if one caliper or pads may be getting seized. As well as defroster grids this has done me an easy job in the field with my diagnostics and is a great tool to have for many fields even construction when needed to find temperatures and heat signatures. The clip to mount the camera to the back of your phone and not just hang from the usb port also makes this a large improvement from the older version of the camera. Overall this thermal camera is nothing short of great and I would highly recommend if your in the market for one.

Solid Thermal Scanner
Topdon makes solid products. I use this to check bearings and it works fine. Adjustable range helps.
