These seem well made plus ideal if you are putting mc4 connectors on / off

The vendor's photo of this MC4 key manages to make it look like some kind of metallized plastic, but actually it appears to be made from some kind of low-grade brass with a plating of nickel. I wouldn't want to use it on a metal component, but for someone wrangling MC4 connectors it's obviously a smarter purchase. It works perfectly on negative terminals. Posititves are a little more awkward, because the prongs aren't a perfect fit for the inset holes. Still easier than two screwdrivers.

These are nothing special but they are also sensibly priced and do the job. Wouldn't be my first pick if I was unhooking solar cables every day but for home use seems fine.

Have used some flimsy ones in the past but these are sturdy enought to do the job well.Recommended

I used this for troubleshooting an isolation fault (following heavy rain) Found that MC4 connectors are not all the same. Solar panels, intermediate wiring and the inverter each with MC4 connectors: seemed to be from different manufacturers and this tool did not always work. Other tools have side facing prongs as well as end facing prongs.

Have found these spanners work great on the old MC4 plugs used previously and also on those pre-fitted on the equipment however found the SWA MC4 plugs seem to have a slightly larger body and the spanner is an incredibly tight fit on those plugs, almost to the point of not fitting. Checked the SWA website and they don't do their own version of this spanner.

I started a hobby solar project last year and I have grown to love the MC4 connectors.To use them well, though, you need pairs of these (which is why it's a pack of 2) and they're often just plastic and I can see me dropping/losing one when I really need to use them in a hurry. That's to do with the design, not this particular product - especially those prongs on the end that you are supposed to use to release the MC4 clips when two halves are joined. So it always pays to have a spare of these tools on hand.But these little wrenches have been great for everything I've used them for, and they're a good price. They grip well and are sturdy enough to tighten or loosen the strongest MC4 connector. Good enough to keep in your back pocket so long as you remember that they're there!Can't fault them.
