Breath of Fresh Air for Meze 99 Neos
I have been into audio for decades. Honestly, the stock Meze 99 Neos disappointed me at first. I love a warm sounding set of cans, fan of the V shape sound profile, but out of the box the bass was too loose. It bled all over the midrange and buried female vocals. I almost returned the cans, but these Brainwavz Hybrid pads combined with some EQ work completely turned them around. The Pads The stock Meze pads are just too shallow. My ears were hitting the drivers. These Brainwavz Hybrids (Black PU/Velour) give my ears room to breathe. Since they are hybrids, the leather sides maintain the seal for bass impact - very "punchy" bass depending on your cans, but the velour face smooths out the sound and is much cooler on the skin. Just swapping these in cleaned up a lot of the mud immediately. The Tuning (EQ APO + Peace) The pads fixed the physical issues, but the software dialed it in. I used Equalizer APO with the Peace interface to finish the job. - The EQ: With the pads clearing up the bloat, I was able to boost the sub-bass while cutting the mid-bass slightly. Now the drums punch hard. I mean physically hard. But they stop fast without lingering. - The Crossfeed: This was the key for the vocals. I turned on the Crossfeed feature in Peace (0.2/Jan Meier). It centers the imaging so it sounds more like stereo speakers than headphones. Female vocals that used to sound distant are now front and center. They are lush and crystal clear. Bottom Line If you want to keep that deep, punchy bass without losing the detail in the vocals, get these pads and spend ten minutes tuning them. It makes a massive difference. It keeps smooth, non-fatiguing sound many would appreciate. These and Equalizer APO + Peace saved me $600+ from buying Denon D5200s, which are probably similar. TL;DR - These are worth the money at $25, very comfortable, and won't mess up your cans, even if you don't EQ them (but you should).

Man these are amazing. Amazingly soft
I bought these as a replacement pads for my Audio-Technica ATH M50s. Here's my take on them: Comfort: Man these are amazing. Amazingly soft, like 3-ply Charmin Ultra Soft but for the ears. The velour part that touches the ears is really nice. I was watching episodes for 3-4 hours, and I didn't take them off at once. They don't really heat up, 10x less than the originals. Installation: These are a tight but perfect fit for the M50s. You will have to stretch them a bit to get them on, but once they get put on, they fit better than the original pads, in my opinion. It took me about 5 minutes to take off the originals and install these. Sound - Signature: Okay, now to the important stuff. For those who don't know, the M50's sound signature is already relatively flat compared to your mainstream headphones, although they definitely still have a bass boost. These pads will completely change that. Since these are much thicker pads than the stock M50 pads, they push the drivers much further away from your ear. As a result, the headphones end up with a lot more of a flat, neutral sound signature. In comparison to the originals, mids are stronger, bass is very much recessed, the mid-upper range is leveled off as well, and the general volume is lower. As a classical and jazz lover, the flatter signature is nice (although EQ tweaking was still necessary). As a person who also listens to a lot of rap, it definitely isn't as fun with the recessed bass. Nothing that a little EQ tweaking can't solve, but for some, the new signature might put them off. Sound - Stage: The soundstage is a bit bigger in these than the originals. They're by no means comparable to open-back headphones, but I definitely appreciate the larger soundstage. Sound - Seal and Noise Cancellation: This is the beauty of the hybrid. These have really good seal (an attribute typically of pleather/leather pads), and very little sound leak. Also, these have a lot better noise cancellation, which I really love. The problem is I don't hear fire alarms anymore - so I just hope they are all drills.

Comfortable and breathable, but still uses that fake leather vinyl material that nobody likes.
Had these velour pads for years. Used to use them on my AT ATH M50x, where they fit perfectly. Eventually I replaced them with Meze 99 classics, which I didn't like the stock earcups for. So I transferred these over to it. They're a bit big but they do stay on, they just rotate a bit. It barely matters though, because they are so incredibly comfy. My ears never get sweaty, because they are nice and breathable. They're soft, and deep enough so my big ears don't press against the inside of them at all. I could wear these headphones for functionally unlimited time without any discomfort. My only issue is that they do use some of that fake leather vinyl on the part that connects to the headphone. That stuff never lasts, and sure enough, after a few years it's starting to degrade on my pair. I would probably just purchase them again, but it sucks that they can't just use a material that would last. If they did that these would be perfect.

Great replacement for Beyerdynamic DT-770 80 ohm headphone earpads
The fit is perfect and the comfort difference is immediately noticeable. Because the Brainwavz earpads are a bit taller and softer, and perhaps a smidge widger in diameter, my headphones are incredibly comfy now. I love my DT770s, but OEM earpads were just a bit hard and pressed just a bit on the earrings in my ears. Now there's no pressure on my earrings. I use these headphones for audio mastering, so I needed earpads that wouldn't change the sound. The headphones are open-back so noise cancelling isn't the issue. Sound reflections and motion noises made by the material could be. The original OEM earpads are velour, which helped me decide on going with the Brainwavz velour. The red is gorgeous, too. Installation: Removing the DT770 earpads is easy: just pull them off. Then after applying a bit of heat using a hairdryer to soften the Brainwavz material, I slipped the new earpads on, working the leathery material around the headphones' lip. Altogether it took me maybe five minutes. Note: Beyerdynamic's liners are clipped in separately from the earpads. My headphones are new and I didn't want to add another layer between my ears and the diaphragms, so since I was leaving the original liners alone, I cut out the liners sewn into the Brainwavz earpads first. If your DT 770 liners are worn, you probably want to keep the Brainwavz liners for protection. (There's a youtube video that shows how to remove the DT 770 liners.)

Increases ATH M50X comfort from a 5 to a 10 while keeping sound quality!
I cannot stress this enough. If you own the ATH M50X with stock pads, GET THESE NOW!! The original pads as many have said are too small, and heat your ears very quickly. I held off on buying these at the same time as the headphones but people's reviews saying they decrease the sound quality made me hesitant. After a few days I couldn't stand the original pads, they made my ears fold up and sweat, giving me headaches after an hour of use and general discomfort all the time. I ordered these with fast shipping and strapped them on in just a couple minutes-a helping hand makes the process very quick. COMFORT: Immediately I noticed the cushioning did its job excellently and my ears fit inside comfortably. The velour ring and perforated interior does a great job in reducing heat - I don't find myself sweating like before even after many hours of playing Battlefield 1 haha. Headaches are gone now and the size of the pads reduces the pressure of the top of the headphones on my head which I thought could use some more padding before purchasing these. SOUND: The moment of truth came when I plugged them in. I'm no audiophile, but here's how I review the change: the bass is not as punchy but only by a small amount, however the distance increase is the largest factor, so an increase in volume makes the change almost unnoticeable now, you could even argue it sounds better all around (highs mids lows) than the original. The pleather parts reduce sound escaping like people would say about the fill velour version. I also feel like they cancel out exterior noise better. After listening to music and playing Battlefield for a few days I can definitely appreciate the balance while still feeling the full force of explosions and artillery in game. These really made me enjoy my headphones and I don't see any reason to not upgrade to these for a balance of sound quality and comfort of the velour ring.

Comfort, but at what cost?
Update 10/1/2015: Brainwavz reluctantly resolved my issues. They eventually contacted me, and replaced the pads at no cost to me. For this I am adding a star. The durability of these pads is still questionable at best. Saying they fit AKG is a stretch to say the least ( they do, but it's not for the faint of heart installing them). I would like to give a more positive outtake from this update... But in order to get a response from Brainwavz, I had to email 3 times, review the product, and leave a negative seller review. The simple solution would have been to just replace the pads first thing, or to simply contact me and let me know SOMETHING early on. Buyer beware. I stand by my opinion however... these are really really really comfortable. Pros: Extremely comfortable, Light for their size, decent soundstage Cons: Not at all durable, get just as hot as pleather pads, maybe too big for their own good (I mean massive.... like wearing Cinnabons on your ears big.... COMICALLY big) I have a few friends, that after much deliberation have purchased and subsequently recommended Brainwavz earpads to me. If you are here, you probably know that they have been around a while, make several products, and get pretty favorable reviews based on a mixture of comfort and sound. I half a dozen pairs of headphones, and only one of them has ever really suffered more shelf time than I thought it should. My AKG k240's despite sounding great (chinese model.. way better cans than they get credit for) didn't get much play because of clear and present comfort issues. The stock pads are horribly thin, and my ears (I have... normal ears?) touch the foam on the drivers while wearing them. SO I decided to take a chance on Brainwavs. I PREFER the comfort of velour (I have been mainly a Sennheiser and BD user for years...) but the k240's are designed with pleather pads in mind, so I picked the hybrids hoping to get a blend of the comfort a crave and the sound that the k240's were designed for... One recommendation actually came from someone who OWNS k240's and installed the velour hm5's on them. I have listened to that set as well (prior to this purchase) and while impressed with the comfort felt that the extra soundstage brightened the overall sound of the cans too much. He had NO issues installing the pads.. no tears, no scares, no manufacturing defects detectable by the human eye... I was, unfortunately not so lucky. Upon opening them, I noticed a small area or pleather near the rim was slightly separated from the elastic. I immediately contacted Brainwavs customer support through amazon's market, and asked if there was anything they could do, and for advice on whether I should install them or not. The csr responded quickly and apologized for the issue, then asked for a picture. I sent a picture, and never heard anything back. That was 72 hours ago. I have since gotten tired of waiting to hear something from them, and attempted to install them as is. The first (no tears) went on great. I wasn't gentle with it, as the k240 is a really wide can, I basically had to force it on (which seems wrong, considering that they advertise these as compatible with akg cans while I'm at it). The second pad (torn) went ON, but the tear immediately became worsened by the installation process. The elastic under the pleather however, held up just fine and the pads are staying put. It's not very pretty, but it's doing the job I intended it to do. I have yet to hear from the CSR that I initially contacted, or any other representative for the company. I suspect that I never will. I wish, in retrospect that I had gone with the velour pads instead, as the comfort is (in my opinion) higher than it is in the hybrids, and the material is more durable. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Brainwavs Hybrids (based on their lack of durability), or Brainwavs as a company (due to their poor customer service techniques).

Excellent Upgrade
I installed these on a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 pros. Getting the earpads on was easier than the stock pads. It took me 30 seconds per pad and they required zero stretching. The sound did change a little. This is mostly due to the Brainwavz pads being thicker than the stock pads. The ear is further away from the drivers and as a result, I felt a bit less of the bass than with the stock pads. I alleviated this by changing sound output volume and EQ. Make no mistake, I am still satisfied with the sound I hear coming from my headphones. In fact, I find the mids and highs to be clearer than they were previously. The main advantage with my purchase was the increased comfort. I wear headphones for about 8 hours a day. My ears and head are often irritated after an hour of listening. After changing the earpads to Brainwavz I immediately noticed relief on my ears and head. The seal around my ears was still tight but the pads were large enough to allow my ears to be completely surrounded without touching the pad itself, unlike the stock pads. Aesthetically, the new pads look great with my black headphones. They don't look as if they are modified or contain mismatched components. Coming from full synthetic leather pads the velour did take some getting used to when putting on and removing my headphones. Not an issue, just an observation that might matter if you are using the hybrid pads for DJing. I feel that this product was a cost-effective way to upgrade my headphones. I'm satisfied enough that I was willing to purchase another set as a gift. I may also purchase the full foam and angled earpads out of curiosity just to see the differences. I have had two pair of HD 280 pros over the last decade or so and I really should have done this sooner. It would have saved me a lot of discomfort.
