Valves do not shut off completely
I installed these in the basement hot & cold supply lines to a shower to more easily replace the control cartridge when needed, and in anticipation of someday upgrading the entire shower. I purchased SharkBite because of the name and inferred high quality. I also paid extra for heavier duty pressure and temperature capability even though the line pressure is only about 60 psi. The installation was a breeze, with most of the time of course spent draining the water lines. Being CPVC lines, I rounded the cut ends with sand paper and even used plumbing grease to lube the valve 0-rings and the pipe ends before inserting into the valves. Again, no issues with installation or with an external leaking at the valves. However, neither valve will fully shut off the water supply. This is evidenced by repeatedly leaving the valves turned off and turning on the shower control. There was a steady leak of water coming from the shower head whether it was full-hot or full-cold. (The valves are about 8 feet from the shower, so the leaking well exceeded normal pressure relief). This (not being able to shut off) isn't a big deal at this point because I don't need to valve off the supply lines again for the foreseeable future. However, when I will need to, I'll need to also replace both valves (while going through the whole draining process again). I've used SharkBite before with no issues, but this will be the last time I purchase their products if I can't count on it. For now, this was a waste of my money. I'm not going to trade them out and return them because I just don't want to go through the hassle right now. I'll eat the loss. The whole purpose of a water valve is to be able to shut off. These don't.
