A Totally New Perspective
I have studied tarot for many years. I realized there were some stage influences in the Pamela Smith illustrations of the Waite Deck. But New Directions in Tarot opened up a whole new fascinating world of how Smith incorporated her stage knowledge into the cards she created. Scott Martin's understanding of theater and his insight into the Waite tarot has inspired me to take a fresh new look at this iconic deck.

New insightful way to read tarot cards for yourself
I recently bought the newly published New Directions in Tarot by Scott Martin and I was delighted with his perspective on interpreting Pamela Colman Smith's tarot deck. An expert on theater craft, psychological gesture and symbolism, Mr. Martin investigates the deck with a series of creative exercises and instructions. This book would be especially helpful for those first learning tarot but also for those who use tarot for their own personal spreads, as his book can serve as an insightful guide, helping to associate tarot images to self awareness. Well done!

Everyone who is interested in Tarot needs this book!
I love this book, starting with the textured cover, the quality of the paper, the crispness of the text, the stunning colors of the end pages and the Tarot cards themselves. This is a scholarly work, full of interesting information and observations. I love the way Martin has revealed how a knowledge of theater influenced Pamela Colman Smith's illustrations. His detailed descriptions of the cards are wonderfully informative. I think this book is a must have for anyone interested in Tarot, and I'm sure it will be a best seller. Congratulations on a job well done!
