Tree arrived, healthy, well packaged, and it is going to be a beautiful tree someday

FANTASTIC!! My family are all biology nerds and this made a fantastic Father’s Day present. Healthy tree and growing very fast! Maybe 4 times its size from them. My dad was very excited when I told him what it was. Fascinating story and plant. Very healthy then and now as well.

I am including a photo of my newly received of “medium dawn redwood” tree. I have it temporarily planted in a pot & it stands about 27” / 69cm tall above the soil. I ordered it on 9/5/2025 and it arrived in good health in a tube container on 9/17/2025, although the roots were definitely ready for some moisture (as I’d expect). I am happy with the specimen, although as you can tell from the photo that it’s very narrow at this point in time, I don’t see many little branches sprouting outwards - and maybe that’s normal, I have never ordered a tree specimen before nor have I ever had a dawn redwood before. I will post an update in 6 months / year / etc. I don’t see any reason to be anything but happy so far, just hope it starts filling out soon (especially in the lower area of the tree).

I'm a nursery / garden professional, and I know how to take care of plants, especially conifers. The dawn redwood arrived looking sick. The needles were more than half brown when I opened the box. I planted it immediately in bonsai mix and watered it, and kept an eye on the moisture level daily. Within less than a month, it died.

Wonderful healthy tree! This is the 2nd tree that I have purchased from this seller. The 1st one is growing well and healthy. This tree was taller and will get planted in the ground at the end of summer. Thanks for the beautiful healthy trees!

I quickly ordered two more, the plants are healthy and are growing rapidly. Had a huge dawn redwood for years, but one lightning strike shattered it to pieces. I like the fact of no knees ,I’ve got tons of cypress and have to deal with the knee. Not so with the dawn redwood.

Ordered two of these, they came and presently there were no needles on either tree like I see in the images posted. The tree "trunks" are a nice shade of redwood red, and the root balls were moist. Planted them in 4 gallon containers, crossing my fingers that they are simply dormant...(?)
